What’s with the having to opt into chat? I’m seeing that not everyone has to do so. Seems to be older accounts that are having to do it and not newer players! Any insight would be great!

They don’t want us to socialize on chat anymore.
It seems like only older accounts are being sent this opt in, my wifes account sub 5 years wasnt asked.
I got the same pop up, makes me wonder, are new accounts defaulted then to non-chat?

Same issue on my account. I also can’t change the settings in my actual account settings on battle.net, it just defaults back to disabled. I have 0 account actions on my acct, which has been active since OG wrath when I started playing.
Likely has to do with the post they made recently about socialization in WoW.
It’s done in game. not on bnet settings. Think it was in social one of the first couple options.
I didn’t take a screen grab of it, but when reading it I could have sworn it said it was due to “issues in your region” or something like that. For info gathering in purposes my account dates to OG BC and I’m in FL – and then I opted in

My account is from OG Wrath and I did receive it.
Probably has something to do with Acti-Blizz’s push towards AI chat monitoring. They’ve already implemented Toxmod into CoD to monitor VC.

I don’t fully understand why that popup happens in the first place. I live in the U.S. and we don’t have hate speech laws here. Well, yet anyways. So I don’t know what regulations they’re talking about :\
I have a really bad feeling that this is going somewhere that I do not like. And for context, I usually keep things civil. I only cuss in guild chat, and during raid night, and it’s usually very tame stuff. I don’t trash talk at all either. I’m perfectly respectful and try to treat others the way I want to be treated. So why am I worried? Youtube has a bot that monitors everything, and even if you’re respectful and don’t cuss there, the bot still finds the tiniest reason to censor you. And it also heavily leans torwards a certain political party, so if you say anything that they find offensive, you get penalized.
I really hope they’re not moving torward an automated moderation bot. If it comes to that, I may very well quit playing.

Also got this pop up today I’m assuming it’s something to do with patch updates since I had nothing yesterday lol. Was moreso just curious on why it popped up than anything. Only in Cataclysm, account is pre bnet, and I barely say anything in chat so definitely not that. Also wondering what prompted this in the first place like a law or regulation or something…
