Opinion: MoP is the true end of Classic WoW

Now before we get our unders up in a bunch I want to explain why I believe this.

As the changes of retail go on, i believe the end of the “classic” era has shifted.
Even if you didn’t like it because, “haha KuNg fu PaNda” MoP was the last expansion to share the themes elements and game designs of old WoW. Elements such as rares being rares, pvp without constant phasing or lag, and you’d always fight the people on your server or server group. talent trees were changed but a lot of passive talents became built into the spec itself and the classes design themselves still had the essence of their original design but we’re much faster paced. The original spell animations, sounds, models, artstyle.

While the cataclysm changed much of the classic world the original leveling design was still there. No stat or level squish. No leveling from 1 to 40 in 2 zones. The original server phasing kept ALL of the zones pretty populated if I remember correctly. Old raids were still fun to solo and could sometimes be challenging And make for some very fun moments. Because they hadn’t been tuned down like they are in newer expansions.

Now I know not all of the classic elements are there like drinking for mama, talent trees, I think on the scale of power progression of the player character up to that point was pretty spot on.
A lot of the old devs left in wod which is probably why the game has changed so much since. But I would love to see them go as far as MoP and maybe continue with making new content in that design. I understand many will probably disagree and say they don’t like MoP so if you don’t I would like to hear your thoughts on what you think they should do after Classic era is over and how they can keep players interested.

I’d play up to MOP even if people don’t consider it “classic”.

Me too I loved Mop a lot. And I understand most won’t but I honestly dont believe the story of classic should end with wrath and /or mop if it comes to that. And would just love to see them create new content with all of the old elements

Yes yes yes! I would replay MoP forever!
Gorgeous zones, fun raids, beautiful music, and engaging stories.
Really hoping they go up to MoP classic!!

MOP is actually pretty popular with most people. Some classic andys would probably riot but aside from them I think most of the classic player base would play through mop.

Ah that’s awesome. Glad people realized it was an amazing time in game. I figured most would rage at even the idea of it haha

And most of all, fluffy panda’s!

So long as they leave a light on for at least one WotLK classic server I will be content and they can keep having my money.

MoP was great for class balance, but the content/story was subpar.

The thing for me personally is, I don’t think I could stomach doing Cata ever again.

I played vanilla and tbc and quit around the time BT was released. I skipped WoTLK and came back for Cata. I think I over played Cata, if that’s possible, because I had missed WoW so much. I sort of shudder at having to do all that content again.

MoP was fun and actually one of the best xpac ever IMO. I didn’t care for pandas but monks were a fun class and I liked how most of the state of the game was in MoP.

I personally hope we just stop the classic at WoTLK. I’m actually surprised it didn’t stop in vanilla…and I’m only back to play WoTLK. If it keeps going, I’ll just quit wow again.

Nah kill classic at Wrath’s end and restart

Nah, Wrath is, because Classic is the game set in the classic worlds before they were all restructured to their current retail form in the Cataclysm.

The leveling experience from 1-60 and the lore is essentially the same until you get to Cata which represents a complete refresh of the game and a clear break between classic and retail.

It’s not about whether the game is popular or not to me, it’s that the trilogy have the same core world as the vanilla game - in the first 60 levels. A world we can’t go back to once we move to Cata and beyond.

I honestly doubt stick around if that happens as evident with the state of classic servers now but I could be wrong

Some might not stick around but most will

Vanilla was magical on its own, it is the best iteration of wow. TBC’s failure to live up to its hype proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt

we want to cata!

there are dozens of us! dozens!

I mean good luck to you if it does happen. But count me out. I would never willingly play past wrath. That is retail at that point, and never had the urge to want to try it.

I’d say they (the Classic Team) have been over all a great job with QoL improvements throughout the span of Classic.

That being said, I think that will also apply to Mists where I am sure with feedback they will see what needs to be changed.

Didn’t like MoP. Wasn’t a fan of the asian art theme, giving monk to every race, or the grossly inflated health pools. Classic ends with wrath as far as I am concerned.

I’m honestly at the end of the line if they dont do classic plus after wrath and it’s good. No desire to play retail and I’m not feeling nostalgic for vanilla. Tbc sucks. Wrath is what I’ve been waiting for and I kinda feel let down the closer and closer it gets. With the way they rushed through Tbc I couldn’t stomach if they do that again.
