Open Question: An Alternative to Queues?

Really constructive and Intelligent, do you even play this game more than 10 hours a week?

The people that do not want you to re-add layers are people who are exploiting a TERRIBLE system involving the fact that there are only 96 black lotus that spawn in a day which is around 670 a week with 10x that actually raid on the server making it possible for someone with an already large amount of money from exploiting this back before layers were removed to buy EVERYTHING that is posted on the auction house in a day and dictate the server cost. The ONLY disadvantage to adding layers is the negative effect it would have on world PVP. IF these queues are not addressed I guarantee Classic is going to see a sharp decline in players when they realize that they are not going to be able to reliably go in to ZG with their guilds because of queue times. IF there are people who REALLY DO NOT WANT LAYERING they can take a free server transfer to a less populated realm where there are none. Problem solved for them.

Maybe in the future, when the players tell you things like “we need more realms” and you have the ability to put more out you’ll go and do it instead of waiting because “if we have to merge some low pop realms together later that’d be like work”. And the realms now might be a bit more balanced population wise.

Temporary return of laying would be a welcomed change. Faerlina is seeing peak queues of 2-3 hours even after the free transfers opened up. The queue has caused many problems for myself and my raiders trying to stay online for raids. I’m definitely on board with the idea of temporarily bringing back layering for as long as is necessary to prevent excessive server queues (anything over 20-30 minutes).

I hate having to waste my entire Tuesday just trying to get into WoW for raid. 5hr30min queue last Tuesday, logging on at 3pm. I couldn’t even kill the time in retail instead. I just couldn’t play WoW.

The way it is right now SUCKS hardcore, at least for Whitemane. Let us play retail at the same time at the absolute minimum.

Again, there was more than enough servers provided, proof was evident prior to the pandemic.

I 100% would like layers. These queues are outrageous. Just make it so world bosses dont spawn or only spawn on one layer or all layers. Trying to keep the game the exact same when it was balanced for the original server size, is not a good plan on the whole.

Also what will happen with world events/gates of AQ on servers that have 0 of one faction

Absolutely.

You will obviously get the vocal minority who think layering is the devil
but those people have nothing better to do but complain and wait in queues

The reason I dont like retail is layering. Id say dont do it. Let people experience real classic. If they dont like queue then switch servers. Or go back to retail

Transfers are currently locked to the mega servers.

Thank you, Kaivax, for the outreach and open question.

I think that implementing an additional layer at least during peak queue times would be beneficial in all aspects of my experience, allowing for far shorter queues, smaller crowds at essential regions in the game world, and a more appropriate volume of key items influenced by overpopulation (i.e. black lotus).

Concerning direct impact on my gameplay experience, significantly shorter queues would positively address a variety of behaviors on my part. Off the top of my head:

  • I would be less tempted to sit around AFK on an alt character for extended periods of time in order to hold a place in the server/queue for a raid night,
  • I would be less fearful of random disconnects and would see a reduction in the subsequent frustration and moments of negative sentiment towards the game when this happens,
  • I would be better tempted to play BFA more, as I wouldn’t have to worry about staying in queue or holding a spot in-game for Classic,
  • the option to play other WoW Classic servers would be more appealing, as I wouldn’t have to worry about staying in queue for a very long time for just one,
    – I imagine this could be beneficial in getting some players to transfer off a crowded server,
  • and I would be more attracted to breaking up my game time and returning to play the game later in the evening–as it stands now, if I’m not logged in earlier in the day, I’m tending to not log in at all during the evening hours outside of raid days, which sucks as I’d like to play my main characters more

Temporary re-activation of layering would be a welcomed change for myself and many of my guild mates who have to deal with the 2-3 hour peak queue times on Faerlina. We consistently have raiders missing raid nights due to getting disconnected and being thrown back in queue. Raid nights become more stressful in that a large portion of the day involves ensuring that one doesn’t get DC’d, or one must watch the queue like a hawk to be sure that a DC doesn’t happen. Definitely in favor of turning layering back on.

At no point should layering ever return to Classic world of warcraft. Either leave it be or find another solution. Could always harden the servers instead of utilizing this cloud based processing which seems to struggle with 100+ players. Wonder how the pservers did it so much better?

I keep saying this over and over and over
LAYER THE MAIN CITIES. 60% of the idling population daily is just raiders idling in orgrimmar or their respective main cities/raidhubs.

The whole randomly disconnecting idlers just caused dedicated people like me to bypass the entire system and thus ADD to the long queues simply to avoid queue times, too. You guys did no favors for yourselves in that and ended up encouraging people to exploit.

For Sure. 4+ hour queue’s will lead me to cancelling my account eventually.

Bring on the layering. It’s cons are puny in comparison.

I don’t want any layering but instead a temporary cap in players like 5k more. I dont want the economy screwed up more and cant play all day farming gold for consumes for raiding because the ah in whitmane is really high on price on consumes already.

How is this even a question at this point? Are you guys not listening to the community? Do you have blinders on? Holy cow. To think that your first answer was to do transfers, only hints at the absurdity of it. This question only confirms it.

Yes. Hours longs queues should not be a thing in 2020. Open the freaking layers up already. This is absurd. It’s bad enough you didn’t increase resource rates for things like herbs. Do something. Take action already.

Please layer so we can down the queue boss.

For the love of god yes. 5 hour queues make raiding near impossible.

With populations this size a temporary increase in nodes won’t mean anything.
