To reinstate the original Cataclysm Faction server rules, as follows;
Cataclysm Servers only allow one Faction, either Horde or Alliance, per account.
In explanation, this means a person can either play as Horde, or as Alliance, but not as both, on the same server.
Reason:
Allowing a person to play as both, allows intentional gameplay sabotage, and has become a getback clutch.
In explanation, the chat logs of Original Cata and New Cata show night and day discussion differences. Nearly every Horde BG has Alliance alts at the start, trolling in some fashion, something that was not just rare in Original Cata, but like 1 out of 100 games type of rare. It used to be a non-event. BG chats used to just be infighting/teaming and such, not this passive aggressive coward troll type thing.
Cataclysm has arguably the best PvP system out of any game currently on the market. No one really is even close to be honest. Thatâs why a ton of us are here. This aspect of the rulesets is destroying the best aspect of this game, the PvP experience. This is not server population related, it was a delegated rule change prior to launch.
In Conclusion:
Reinstating this ruleset will require all the trolls to buy VPNâs & a new account to continue doing so. Knowing that it cost a Faction alt $50+ extra bucks a month to try and âgetbackâ at you, is important. All that stuff cost time and money, and places those who privy it into increased cyber exposure, with higher latency gameplay, to say the least.
I donât know what âoriginalâ server rules youâre referring to because you could always have toons of both factions on the same server in Cataclysm.
Also, how would such a rule change the results of battlegrounds when theyâre cross server?
I do not agree with you that Cata has the best PvP. Itâs fun, but super imbalanced. Many specs are just outright unusable or just too weak to compete. Meta specs are constantly crushing the charts. The top killing blows are almost always, Fire Mage, MM Hunter, Arms War, or Sub Rogue, or the occasional Boomy. Itâs just straight up imbalanced.
Also, cc meta is so unfun. Diminishing returns does not do nearly enough. For instance, you can get smacked for up to 10 or 15 seconds with hard cc depending on the enemies comp. And while weâre talking about CC, letâs not forget to mention Fear. A lock can put all their dots on you and spam Fear on you, and unless you have trink or racial, you cannot break free from this without a healer or Priest. Fear in Cata is broken.
And finally, while I love having resilience and PvP stats on gear, healers are dang near unkillable unless you chain cc them constantly, or have several people wailing on them. Donât get me wrong, I enjoy PvP in Cata, but it is by no means the best PvP in a given game.
PvP is WoW is just unpleasant. Anything that bases around CC and ensuring that people canât play / fight back is trash imo.
WG and TB arenât even jokes, they are just stupid and ridiculously imbalanced. I canât remember the last time I did a TB where horde wasnât outnumbered 7 to 1 or worse. WG at least gives you the buff, but it doesnât matter when it is 6 v 1 and they can keep you CCâd the entire time they wipe out your massive HP pool. It is just training dummy simulator at that point.
If you were on a PvP server, you could NOT make toons on both Factions.
Also, you could not PvP with PvE servers, and PvE toons could not xfer to PvP servers.
Later, around MOP, they merged and did the server combines, added that phasing thing, and removed rulesets allowing PvE to xfer to PvP, and the list of wrongs go on.
The ruleset dramatically reduces trolling by making it cost money, and risk ban, to sabotage gameplay. Thatâs the end result.
Cross server is the same faction, it does not let Alliance and Horde PvP together currently, and would stay unchanged.
TL:DR
PvP people shouldnât be able to talk to the opposite faction so they canât organize any shenanigans or boosts. PvE players donât need to worry about this kinda problem and can have both. If you want and chose a PvP server youâve already made the choice to limit yourself, thatâs a you problem.

Heres the mmo-champion thread about it from 2009 which references a blue post most likely lost to time.
They didnât do changes to just EU or just NA back then. Blizzard also didnât announce changes to things like the shop in patch notes. All it takes is a âpvp realm restriction lifted 2009â google search to know youâre wrong.
Heres a wowhead thread discussing the change(in the US btw) https://www.wowhead.com/forums/topic/you-can-now-make-characters-from-both-factions-on-pvp-servers-thoughts-112617
You donât need a vpn to have multiple accounts, and you can pay for your sub with an embarassingly small amount of gold, so it costs them nothing.
