So I’m back into the mount hunting mode & one that has eluded me for a long time is the Onxyian Drake. For anyone who has been lucky enough to get it, what combo did you use (10-man Heroic, 25-man Heroic, normal mode)? or is the drop rate the same no matter what you set the raid to?

I have heard the drop rates are the same, but I did it on 25 because I am superstitious to a degree and the harder difficulty was trivial. Think I was 100 at the time. I got it after about 20 or so attempts.

I farmed it weekly on multiple alts on 25 and eventually gave up. When I finally got it, I was actually hitting up candy buckets during Hallows End and decided to pop in on my warrior. Didn’t expect it to drop, jaw dropped when Rarity notified me I’d looted it. Good luck!

There is no combo. It is all RNG based. I got lucky though as it didn’t take long for me to get it. But for all old content raids, I always do the hardest difficulty and 25 man. Only time I do normal mode is if I am trying to solo a raid from the previous expansion. Mages are one of the worst old raid soloers so if we do Mythic raids solo, it usually needs to be 2 expansions behind or 1 3/4ths expansion. I can barely do normal Nighthold. Although not clear it (the flower boss I can’t pass) but can solo most of it.
Do 25 man heroic for the extra golds.
The drop chance is the same regardless of difficulty.

Yeah it doesn’t matter. I got lucky and got it inside of 10 tries on 10n. Ashes of Alar however, I’m convinced that mount doesn’t actually exist…

160 or so attempts across 8 characters at the time. Dropped in 10M.
I always ran it on 25m, since it has been soloable, and she finally dropped a few months ago. Might be coincidence, but she dropped when I decided to delete the bag that she drops out of my bank. Gl!
That is how I get most of my mounts. Just pop in because I am in the area anyway.
I farmed deathwing for about 6 months steady on 4 or 5 guys and got nothing.
A few days after BFA launched one of my daughters asked why we don’t kill Onyxia’s Daddy any more, so we popped in for old times sake and the silly thing dropped.
Was very pleasantly surprised and she got ice cream for such an excellent suggestion. Everyone was happy.

Im in the same situation as you. Got it in 10, and have spent like 9 years trying for Ashes!
I see it around, but i always feel like they bought it on the BMAH or something LOL.
I’m the same way. I did it on 25 man but took me 132 attempts to get it.

i try to do all my mount runs on the highest difficulty possible, not even sure why.
i think it ended up dropping for me after like 125-ish runs
Never paid attention to my raid settings when I killed Onyxia. It was probably set to the default. So 10 man.
I think I’d lose my mind if I went after this one and a few others a lot, so I just pop in once and awhile, every 3-4 months or so, and thus far, no luck on this one. It’s a bummer, but I don’t let it stress me out…much.
I think the drop rate is the same for all aspects of the raid. I ran Onyxian Lair on 25 heroic. I have had problems getting the mount in I.C.C to drop for me. At one point I was switching between 12 characters and still no luck.

My white whale is Invincible. I lost count around 200 and still no mount.

I swear that’s how I get most of mine, and it’s almost always when I randomly decide to pop in around 6 am. I don’t know what it is about 6 am EST but I have the best luck getting drops then.

Took me 37 tries. I always did it on 25 man because you get more loot to sell. It isn’t much, but going from 10 man to 25 man doesn’t increase the difficulty or anything at this point. She’ll still die in like, 1 hit anyway.
