One week ban for non-participation in BG? What?

I just came back to TBC in prep for Wrath, decided to at least try to get some PvP gear and get used to PvP in here as opposed to retail. I am on a fresh 70 greens rogue, so in the BGs I decide to just defend starting nodes or the flag.

Within 2 days of doing BGs, I get a 1 week ban for non-participation, even though I was there participating. Sorry I didn’t want to run into the fray, die in 2 seconds doing no dmg, wasting healers mana? I thought I could at least be helpful sap/stunning/blinding attackers or EFCs?

Would also like to know this ban is a literal week long for this first time ive ever been banned in this game, pretty sure this ban doesnt exist on retail. People who tell people to end their life or other gamer words get banned for less.

You think that’s bad enough? When you get back you’ll find that your honor has been wiped as well.

At least it was 1 week, mine was 2 weeks. Played 3 ABs defending as well. And they stripped me of 70k honor that I farmed at towers. Literally farmed 1k honor and they took 70k their banning team is absolutely horrible. It’s all automated. Once you get too many reports it just happens and everyone reports defenders so now I just zug with the mob.

Good to know, I will also ignore defending objectives and just zug on the roads with the mob.

Which is sad.

But I don’t know the way TBC bans work. I think that you most likely got flagged for inactivity because you were likely sitting in one node. And maybe the bot noticed this repeated behavior and you were outed for it. Perhaps, they want you to enrich your masochistic tendencies by letting you really run at people and die within 2 seconds. That said, if you do die in 2 seconds. I doubt the healer would be spending much mana. :joy:

I defend all the time, never been banned. More to this.

Sad to hear that they implemented the automated report system in WoW as well. :anguished:

My suspension was 2 weeks instead of 1. Strangely, I got banned on the 3rd week of TBC launch, for BG non-participation almost a month prior, during pre-patch, so I guess someone decided to let me level my characters during launch and delay the suspension for when the arena season started.

I was also defending nodes. I will also admit, I was minimally present for hours at a time. Deserved suspension for me, although the timing was quite unusual and cruel watching my friends do arena while I stare at 13 days 22 hours till suspension lifts

In this thread: people who afk and claim they are “defending” and deservedly getting slapt with a ban. keep “defending” while you watch netflix and twitch. see if you’ll get passed the ban next time

bgs are random casual content, why exactly are we banning people in them? people have been half playing them since day 1 and yet no bans were issued and the game was just fine?

If you’re not fighting in the middle or on the roads you’re a bot.

Yeah I don’t think people get banned for it on Retail. Streamers go 40 losses in a row in Arena afk and don’t even get banned.

Unfortunately any player will be punished for playing certain roles and key map positions in battlegrounds. This is due to the in game report feature that a team uses against players that play this way.

This mind set and abuse of the in game report feature ruins the ability to play the battleground objectively; to focus on the win.

The playerbase used to understand how terrible it was to overextend, fight on roads, and feed into teams. All of which were usual tale tell signs of a BOT.

This is no longer the case. The roles have reversed. Playing smart and to the objective for a win is not seen as a value amongst the playerbase.

A player is currently much better off mindlessly killing or feeding a team. Purely due to how other players abuse the Report AFK in game feature combined with the automatic nature of the ban.

For a PvP player, the new strategy due to this new abusive player behaviour is to not care about win or loss, only to do as much damage as possible.

Here is the play book for today’s environment:

  1. Complete BG Daily, Terrokar Tower, Hellfire Towers, Halaa Kill PvP dailies. (While doing the BG daily, do not care about winning, only care about killing and staying in combat as much as possible.)

  2. Farm the Battleground for all marks of gear you’d want to obtain. (Again, don’t care about winning, simply stay in combat as much as possible.)

  3. Now that you have all your marks, all you need is honor. This is when you only Play AV between the Dailies above in number 1. (Again, don’t care about winning, cap towers and head south stay with team.)

  4. Repeat number 1 and 3 until you have all of your gear.

Remember, don’t care about playing objectively, don’t care about winning. Just kill kill kill.

Side strat: At minimum, create a 5v5 Arena team and play 10 games a week. Regardless of gear or comp.

This is the only method to avoid being falsely banned due to players abusing the report AFK feature.

Even if you know you will die it’s better to join the mob in any battleground than risk being singled out as the AFKer. You will get spam reported by the cows.

Yeah it’s better to feed apparently than to play around your lack of gear. It’s quite pathetic. Two of my guildies got dinged for the same thing for playing defense.

I wouldn’t touch battlegrounds with a 20ft cattle prod. But thats me. /shrug

Stop afking in battlegrounds.

That’s what you have to do. Just zug with the mob and fight until you drop. Forget defending, at least until you pad your damage log. It’s just the log that they look at. If you don’t have enough numbers, they’ll wreck your account and rob you of every point, even if most of it wasn’t earned in that BG. I honestly stopped even going to AB because it’s not worth the risk. I just go to AV where you can do whatever the hell you want. Blizzard wrongfully suspending and robbing me for playing AB made me dread the BG. When you’re also trying to raid you REALLY don’t want to get wrecked for 8 damn days because a GM looking at AB player logs is a moron.

I would hate to be a new player on this.
If you aren’t with with crowd but doing something else useful
then you’re at risk for a ban lol. Yikes.

Edit: Is it only BG ban or is it the whole account?

whole account for some reason
