Since titles are awarded at static ratings (excluding rank 1), and all titles up to elite are earnable in any bracket, this heavily devalues the feeling of accomplishment when earning a particular title. To the point where many don’t bother pushing whereas they might have before.
For example, earning elite in blitz right now means something VERRRY different from earning it in 2s or 3s. Yet the titles are identical. I know people look at duelist/elite as a total joke, but if these were returned/changed to a percentage based reward, I do believe some prestige would be returned to them.
For example, as a player in BC/wrath etc, I remember when I’d see a player with duelist title, I was actually impressed, and it gave me a good indication of their skill level. This is absolutely just not the case anymore and is really unfortunate. When seeing a gladiator, I knew they were absolutely a top tier player with very little question about it (only rank 1 players may say otherwise, but i’d argue their perception is pretty skewed).
Anyways, I think the above prestige really motivated people, and it’s a shame that’s gone for everything but rank 1 nowadays. I think the overall rarity is what often makes something special. Similar in ways to a very rare mount. It’s really cool when you see someone with it, because you almost never do. Take that same mount and make it much more accessible and suddenly no one cares about it anymore, or even bothers to get it.
I think the tradeoff to this is that making things more prestigious also makes it less accessible to the average player.
I personally think that that’s better for overall game health, but I also know that not everyone will agree with me on that.
I think that things should require effort to get so they feel rewarding to achieve (so not blitz, I think 3s is in a great spot tbh) but also not be so much work that they feel unattainable.
That being said, I think there are way too many people who will just quit at the first sign of any resistance and those players should NOT be catered to because they’ll quit regardless over one thing or another.
I agree with you but this is the minority opinion now.
Resistance is bad, difficulty is not inclusive. People want their good boy battle pass rewards fast with minimal effort so they can go play something else.
There’s no more wanting something and putting in the work for it. Gamers are maximum fried. All PvP rewards on a trading post style system they can grind out in random epic battlegrounds or game is bad.
Thinking is hard but the first 1800 with 10 wins gladiator mount people are gonna go oh this one is lame not cool like the other ones same way people do with bfa+ mounts compared to legion and previous
the rewards are just not compelling enough as I got older. I usually just try to push glad once an xpack to tell myself I’m not washed. However the amount of effort required to achieve them is insane. We have to compete with the people who can sell RMT/boosts, are full time streamers or compete at the highest level just to achieve glad. When I was a kid I’d put in all the effort I could to obtain my pixels but now its too much cost to my personal life to be good at the game. I can’t imagine any newer or inexperienced player wanting to do that grind for rewards that don’t matter.
Rewards are REWARDS for a reason. You earn them. You don’t get them.
It’s as simple as an achievement being a grind you have to get to unlock it, or a mount you have to farm to get. You need to invest the effort into earning it.
the gameplay loop is also very rough right now. It’s a laundry list of defensives and pseudos of many different types ( knockbacks, incap, knockup, grounding, reflect, disarm etc) just to reliably get damage out. I understand that’s where the skill of the game comes from but its also just more of an annoyance as there are multiple layers of stuff to get through with modern wow.
Well yes, this has been an ongoing issue since DFs1.
People are forced to play 1 way without much variation, and if you deviate from that way of play, you are now palying the game on hard mode.
The push towards 3-5min games with PVE comps/specs has put PVP into a downward trend. I understand people hate dampening, but dampening metas have the most skill expression out there, and people are able to have a less stressful game when they play in them.
It’s fine to ahve burst comps, like sub/mm, in the meta, but when every comp/spec feels like it’s sub/mm then there’s a very unique problem.
I understand where you’re coming from, and I agree and disagree with those people. There shouldn’t be only rewards for the top 30% or so of players…as that will leave many people feeling completely left out and the awards WILL feel completely inaccessible to them.
To circumvent this, I think they just need to offer titles/rewards throughout the entirety of the ladder. This way, you always have something to push for that feels within reach if you’re just willing to try. So yes, this means adding titles and rewards for even the bottom 50% of the ladder. Obviously these will be very common, and so people should naturally want to rank up to the next title/reward which will have more prestige (be rarer)
With things being this way, there are no arguments about deflation, inflation, smurfing, getting a title in an “easy” bracket, during a certain time in the season with inflation etc. You will be where you deserve to be.
As for blitz, I think it’s fine as its own thing, but it just shouldn’t reward the same titles as 3s or other brackets.
I think its because classes are too self sufficient with their kits. rogue being able to feint bladestorm and double dip on the passive DR + the DR from aoes, cloak removing physical things. shamans grounding reset into grounding into lasso into shear, knockback just to get to their wall or burrow.
I’m old and washed but I’d rather a 3-5 min game with less defensives on each class and more team utility spells to encourage team reliance. the BFA 12-16 min games of shadowplay or warrior sp killed my soul.
Sorry I’ll clarify. Not dampening as in 15 minute games, but dampening as in slower rot gameplay. Triple kill comps like old L$D and MLS that slowly took over the game if you weren’t able to crush them fast. The games don’t need to be 15 minutes, but those comps should be able to play that way rather than just randomly losing to a wizard pressing 1 or 2 buttons 2 or 3 times and your entire team evaporating.
The game rn is just a bunch of cd trading way too quickly. And that feels awful.
We will win eventually comps should be viable for sure. The game used to be different, if you could manage to live enemy goes without a defensive,( instead using cc or positioning) you were in the lead, now if you use cc and positioning, you likely still have to trade the defensive otherwise you can just throw the game.
