I have a wand named Calming Spore Reed that has +155 spell power. I have a green dagger with +127 spell power. However, the staves such as the Crystalfire Staff from Ramparts which has +58 and the Staff of Polarities from Mana Tombs which has +84 spell power aren’t anywhere near the +spell power of the one handers. They should have more to compensate for the fact that you can’t have an offhand.
Makes sense for some wands to have wonky stats since they had to be converted from the relic slot to main hand. Not that big a deal in the long run
That’s not how it worked originally. Everyone lost their relic slot. There wasn’t any compensation. And with your logic, they’d have to add the extra sp to staves, too.
I’m aware? It’s leveling gear, no one cares. Come back when endgame gear isn’t balanced
The stats from gear in vanilla and TBC were not normalized in the same way gear was in later expansions. Not everything had main stat, stam, and two secondaries. The inconsistencies in the values is likely due to its stat budget being spent elsewhere, such as Stamina.
Calming Spore Reed is item level 91. It has 16 Sta, 12 Int, and 12 Spi, 155 SP.
Crystalfire Staff is item level 85. 64 Sta, 16 Crit, 58 SP.
Staff of Polarities is item level 97. 63 Sta, 28 Hit, 84 SP.
It’s not compensation. Everyone lost their ranged slot, but wands were converted to mainhand weapons. You don’t gain any stats as a result of that.
This makes sense to me thanks Ironchain. I don’t think I noticed the high stam. It still is a huge disproportional amount of spell power. No caster wants that stam over SP.
Definitely not. Most of those kinds of items were considered bad for that exact reason. But people also values Stamina more back then, too. It’s wild to me that Warlocks genuinely used to chase Stamina on their gear.
