When you think about it, Night elves embody the “High elf” fantasy while Blood elves embody the “Dark Elf” fantasy. They simply traded looks is all.
And void elves are darker elves
I suppose. And Nightborne are… Nightborne?
Night elves are wood elves and blood elves are definitely high elves. Even down to not really like humans when push comes to shove.
Blood Elves == High Elves
We will probably get High Elf customizations for Blood Elves in Shadowlands.
I know, I was talking from a thematic standpoint.
Nightborne always struck me as being lightly drow inspired, living under the dome/nightwell (underdark), having commonly white hair, the drider/spider hybrid/etc.
I think Night Elves are sylvan/wood elves.
Blood Elves are high elves.
Nightborne are moon elves.
We don’t have an elven race filling the dark elf / drow role.
Or one filling the eladrin elves either.
Blood elves difficulty tick a lot of the boxes for the high elf fantasy. Metzen even said they were the high elf concept given a facelift and twist.
- Vain
- Immersed in magic
- Fair skinned
- Lithe and exhibiting beauty.
- Generally distant from humans
- Heightened reflexes that make excellent rangers
Nightelves tick the boxes for wood elves.
- Living in woods
- Defenders of nature
- Able to call upon nature for power and abilities
