What are the downsides of on the fly spec swapping? Personal preference is not a downside, it promotes freedom to play the game. What is the downside here?
Did you not play Vanilla Classic in 2019-20? It was already like that even without duel spec.
Hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving. May we be thankful for trash posts such as this one to give us those much needed laughs.
It creates a very tedious pug meta. Where you will have to 100% always be playing the meta spec or be booted. On the flip side, if changing specs requires going to town first, it’s likely not going to be worth the hassle of waiting. People will be much more willing to not worry about specs in pugs.
Adding on the fly spec swapping only encourages the toxicity you see in retail. And the people supporting it are helping illustrate that in this very thread.
I cant say that I have experienced this. I will say its nice to have to not redo my key bindings every time I want to respec for PvP.
Well I have absolutely no problem with going to the trainer to switch over to a PVP spec where you have a template saved. So long as you have to actually go to the trainer and you can’t just do it willy-nilly wherever you want even in between mob groups.
Seems arbitrary but I could live with that compromise for roleplay reasons.
I don’t get logic like this. LFR, LFD, transmog, Flex raiding, Epics raining from the sky, flying, etc also didn’t hurt anyone. Yet it changed the game drastically.
This I could get behind, swapping specs at the trainer only after paying 1000g for the privilege.
Well I think respec costs should be drastically lowered. I wouldn’t even have a problem if it was free. So long as you have to stop at the trainer to make the switch. The only problem is on the fly spec swapping.
See I agree with this, all is required to go to your trainer for a free respec, you should have included this in your original post as an alternative to dual spec on the fly.
But if Blizzard does attach a fee to this, then I’m for dual spec, the amount of respecing for testing builds and runes particularly to each person’s taste is going to be a lot.
But definitely edit your original post to include that all you want is a player to go to the trainer for a free respec as an alternative choice.
I just noticed your Avatar. I recently saw a mechanical gnome race class thing. Now they have bird people? lol. Sorry, the game’s just changed a ton.
It will be fine. Wotlk was the peak of wow population when dual spec was firstly introduced. It didn’t destroy wotlk.
Just play and enjoy the game. You don’t have be paranoid. It’s not good for your health.
Imagine what the population could have been if they didn’t start introducing poor retail mechanics.
they didn’t start introducing poor retail mechanics.
It’s easy blame on something but it’s not easy to figure out the solution. Don’t be such person
Well I think the solution is to avoid controversial retail mechanics – or at least compromise on them. Like free respecs and templates to save specs. But you have to go to the trainer to do it. I think that’s a perfect compromise.
You also like to argue in bad faith and I simply don’t value your opinion at all.
But adding dual spec would be like adding flying mounts.
…Wow that’s a huge stretch.
Also I get the feeling you don’t know what duel spec is and you’re just vomiting random words out of your mouth to sound smart.
First off they said “duel spec” duel spec is not retail it’s wrath. Retail is swap anything on the fly. Wrath is duel spec where you have a tank spec saved and a dps or heal spec saved, you’re not swapping points around or anything else.
Just stop.
It creates a very tedious pug meta. Where you will have to 100% always be playing the meta spec or be booted.
This is especially hilarious given this is not even the case in pugging in Dragonflight where you can save 10 different talent profiles and freely respec any of them at any time.
Unless you’re doing super high end cutting edge content that isn’t even pugged as extensively as lower difficulties in the first place, nobody will even ask you if you’re speced into talents that are useful for that content.
So long as you have to actually go to the trainer and you can’t just do it willy-nilly wherever you want even in between mob groups.
They used to limit you to having to go to town or using a tranquil mind tome to respec in retail, but in DF you can just respec freely anywhere except in the middle of PvP or M+.
Over the years I think they discovered the limitations were trying to solve a problem that didn’t really exist in the first place. People don’t respec every pull because that’s stupid and unnecessary anyway. Whatever weird scenario you come up with for why free respecing is a problem, it’s usually not something that actually happens often or ever in practice, it’s just an invented nonsensical made up concern that has no basis in reality.
Well I think the solution is to avoid controversial retail mechanics – or at least compromise on them. Like free respecs and templates to save specs. But you have to go to the trainer to do it. I think that’s a perfect compromise.
What is it about having to leave the content you are doing, head across the world to a trainer, respec, then travel all the way back, that makes you so happy?
The stubbornness to changes that are improvements is unreal, it’s like you are addicted to wasting your time.

Well I explained that in detail throughout the thread. It creates a very tedious pug meta. Where you will have to 100% always be playing the meta spec or be booted. Not at all. I’m in favor of a great deal many qol improvement like lower respec costs, group making tool, spec saving templates, etc. Just because someone doesn’t agree with you on everything doesn’t mean they belong in some “hates everything that is helpful” box. That’s just childish.
