So I finally got around to doing the whole run through for the trinket and unlock for old Scholomance. After much research (because the wowhead guide is woefully unhelpful) it turns out that I need a certain currency to take to an NPC to get the patterns.
The items needed to get the currency are apparently Invader’s Scourgestones which, according again to Wowhead, drop at a very low frequency from bosses in (unlocked classic) Scholo and Strath. Yet I have done them both a number of times and have not had a single one drop.
Can anyone confirm that these items DO indeed drop and can be exchanged for Argent Dawn Valor Tokens?
Yes they do drop. Maybe try equipping the Argent Dawn trinket. If you have done the quest line to unlock old school scholomance you shouldn’t have to equip it, but maybe you need to for some reason, maybe you need more reputation with the Argent Dawn or something like that.
Since it is open to all my alts I cant see that the trinket would be required. Comments on wowhead seem to indicate not. I guess its just a matter of grinding.
yes they drop off the bosses in stratholme - guaranteed. you must have missed something.
It is quicker to just do Naxx though I find.
I actually think you have to go farther along than just open up old scholomance
This is the buff you need and once you open up the line far enough all your characters get this buff enabling them to collect these (although not all characters can access the items on the vendor - that part takes rep but the currency(s) are account wide)
nah you don’t need exalted - once you open up the process you can get them on all characters.
Once you can collect them, you will get an argent dawn trinket buff on the top for all your characters when you enter an instance. If you don’t have that you will get nothing. And you don’t need exalted I just double checked in stratholme.
That person who wrote that wowhead stuff is wrong about a few things there and after all this time they never bothered to correct it.
I did miss something. Or at least none of the guides that I read told me that there was a follow up series of activities I had to do to be able to get the items to drop from the dungeons. (Whoever wrote the guide for Wowhead needs to learn how to actually write a comprehensive and complete guide…)
After I did that extra set of activities and went to Light’s Hope Chapel I was able to start collecting the items.
I also note that they didn’t clarify how it works for alts, they just said it did. After the runaround I had with trying to figure out the method before I was really hoping I wouldn’t have the same problems on alts.
OK, just to confirm, I have the “Memory of Scholomance” on one of my characters.
I just took an alt into Stratholme and there is no buff for the option showing on my alt. I went to Scholo and it wasn’t showing there either. I tested it out and got no drops. So either the ability to use it on alts is bugged or I have missed something else out. I am very confused.
I ask because there is no mention on the Achievement of it allowing collection on alts and I have taken two alts into Scholo and not had the buff appear or had any items drops. And my first character, the one that got the trinket, does have the buff and does get drops.
Well, I have no idea what is going on. I completed it on the first toon, got the trinket, did a run and got stones fine. But no alts get the buff or get any stone drops.
I tested it out yesterday on an alt. I take about 10 alts through Naxx every week and have had no problems. You might have to open up the Naxx portal and maybe even the Naxx vendor (pretty sure the Naxx vendor is what you need - I had originally been only after those same patterns you were and I was annoyed they didn’t open up until after doing all the Naxx stuff).
There are a lot of different Naxx patterns as well so you probably want to do that anyway.
Thing is, I don’t want to do Naxx. Not at this stage anyhow and I certainly dont want to make them, I cant afford the materials. And you dont need the Naxx vendor for the Scholo patterns, you get those from the vendor in Lights Hope Chapel.
I dont want to do Naxx at this stage - all I wanted to do was Scholo and Strath, and the post on Wowhead very clearly says that once you complete “Memory of Scholomance” on one character, you can get the stones on your alts. I mean it says right there in the guide. Either they are wrong - and everyone here saying they can get them on alts is lying - or I have something weird going on with my account. I don’t believe for a moment people are lying but as with so many things in the game at the moment, I think I’m the victim of some sort of bug preventing me from getting what others can get.
