this will now be in my head all day… thanks
I’m very confused by the negative responses to this thread. Have people never played arena on retail in the past however many years or queued competitive in other games? Matchmaking systems don’t have to be binary - and they aren’t on retail wow.
Here’s what people are asking for:
OCE to be re-linked with NA servers.
This does not mean the realms are transferred to a US server. This is asking for them to be linked - much like Frostmourne and Barthilas are linked right now. You can queue arena on retail and if it can’t find you a reasonably fair opponent within a short timeframe, it widens the regions it’s looking in and matches you up against someone fair. The location of your server for your Battleground or Arena match is determined by you and your opponent’s location.
This is of immense benefit to anyone queueing at higher ratings or queueing brackets like 3’s and 5’s. I really do feel for the highest rated OCE players. It’s really hard to queue 3s at most times of day (especially peak hours when people raid) due to there being so few opponents available. They’re forced to choose between pvping in a pond and staying connected to their raiding guilds/friend circles or transferring/playing on the ocean of players on NA servers, but leaving behind their communities to do so. I do both, playing on Faerlina and Arugal, but I can only play on Faerlina a few hours a day due to my teammates being from NA. Not ideal - but better than waiting 7-10 minutes for a queue pop and the opponent is 500 rating above or below you. That’s not fun.
If you’re the type of person who just queues a few casual bgs here and there and 10 5s games every week, this change benefits you. It means your BGs will mostly still be against OCE and the opportunity to queue your 5s on a night other than Tuesday will give you some actual flexibility, as people don’t just queue 5s on Tuesdays in NA.
Your server will still be OCE when you log in. Your raid pings will still be low, it’s just when you connect to a BG or Arena, it might have a higher latency. That’s fine. The ping won’t be why you lose and reducing a complex game like arena to something so simplistic is a pretty sad cop-out.
wouldn’t be surprised if they aren’t changing it because of the original elron post, not sure why they won’t engage in a discussion though
Because nobody wants to play with a high ping.
If you’ve used the retail matchmaking, you know that most of the time you end up in high latency east coast server groups. PVPing with 300+ is not fun.
They also broke something when they changed the way the servers work, because even when you get into a west coast instance it’s still far laggier than it should be, or used to be when we were stuck on Blackrock etc
Should make it like retail, prioritise oce queues, if you cant find an oce game within 2mins put us into a west coast 150ms completely playable game.
The mistake blizzard did was place oce into the whole NA ecosystem, thats why we got those horrible laggy 200-250ms east coast queues.
Merging us with Asian battlegroups not possible such as the Chinese servers? I’d imagine we get better ping vsing those guys then NA.
Correct me if I’m wrong.
Yea this…
Yes this would be ideal, but they can’t/won’t do this.
Better off the current system than the lagged out east coast instances.
Singapore yes most likely. China? No way.
This is all i want! I just want them to say we’ve looked into it and we don’t think its the right move at this time…
I’d hate for them to say that but id rather that than radio silence… its foo king horrible how neglected OCE is in this regard!
@community council
If it’s between a main hand glaive and a BG re-merge I’ll take the BG re-merge.
PLEASE merge us with US west blizzard. PLEASE! There are no battlegrounds outside of WSG during the day and zero arena queues
Perfect solution. The infrastructure is there. BLIZZARD PLEASE Oceanic is DEAD
We just need Blizzard to ask the community if they want this, the response will be overwhelming.
the only thing that can get this done is a large community effort
Nah mate, it’s fine. It really is. And the counter to “nobody wants to play with high ping” is nobody gets to play at all. Because that’s what queueing arena is so often on OCE. There are absolutely bugger all teams queueing.
Besides, like everyone has mentioned, prioritizing pairing OCE teams already exists on retail and the ping is always fine. I don’t know why you have 300+ ping, but that’s absolutely not the case for me. Sounds like a problem with your ISP, mate.
When you get paired with east coast battlegroups the ping is easily 300+. West coast is usually gives sub 180.
If they can’t limit it to the west coast would rather longer waits than horrible latency.
I’m playing on faerlina right now. It’s east coast. It’s not 300+
Also wasn’t this exactly what they did anyway? They used a middle ground server, i.e. west coast when they paired you against a US east team. I don’t recall ever playing on an east coast us server in the better part of a decade on retail.
But believe whatever you want mate.
Now you’re just making rubbish up.
It’s very easy to see where you are connected via a netstat.
And the issue is not when you connect directly to a server(currently pinging 226ms to the us central cluster from Perth, which would be 178ish from Sydney), it’s when your home and world servers are in different regions that the additional latency occurs. It’s very easy to replicate right now in retail random battlegrounds.
