Seriously. This so much. So, so, so, so much.
Was not announced with this:
Which is why people who lost out on hundreds of echoes should have them reimbursed.
Simply put, it should not be on the player to fill the gap in a system the provider built, especially if you decided to notify the players the same day the new system was introduced.
I don’t want freebies but I’m pretty avid about getting what I’ve earned. I did the work on 1 character to earn the essences which I was already ginding toward on my 2nd character. I also did the work of pushing my mythic keys (12 on both). But here I am, empty-handed because your system can’t associate 2 characters on the same account, on the same realm?
That’s some low-bar implementation.
If you’re not even planning on playing at a heroic level… Then stop worrying about essences. I’d even stop worrying about upgrading the cloak.
Yup, we tried that previously. It was called WoD. People really really hated it. There was nothing to do and people could maintain 10+ heroic/mythic ready alts easily (I did…).
I work more than 40 hours a week yet manage to find the time? A week has 168 hours in it. I’m sure you can make room for 2 of those to be dedicated towards upgrading your cloak.
And if you’re not planning on playing at Heroic/Mythic levels? Why in the world are you no life upgrading all of them…
Having said this, I’m not completely unsympathetic to your cause. I’m actually with you in feeling that alts should have a dramatically reduced input relative to your main. For instance 4 clears for the rank 15 cloak on main, 2 clears on first alt, 1 clear on rest. My only point to you was that this compromise they just put in is actually relatively fair. And it looks like you’ll be able to upgrade multiple essences to rank 3 within a week. It does however insist that you actually play the darn alt…
I shouldn’t be no life upgrading them is the point. Alts are for casual fun play. Unsurprisingly being able to enjoy the fruits of your labor of time spent on your main to casually play your alts in random bgs or lfr or whatever is important to some. Do alts need them? No, not really. Is it more fun with them? You bet. It makes playing them a lot more interesting and worthwhile to me.
Doing the main+minor assault and a vision is playing the bulk of 8.3 content. That to me is reasonable and time-wise acceptable. Doing anything on top of that is pushing it, especially when you are still doing things on your main
I am very happy to see a wide range of activities that provide the currency. I think it’s a pretty good compromise. I do agree with others that said this should have come sooner, but this is definitely a decent design choice in terms of allowing alts to get essences. Please remember systems like this in the future. I like being able to earn things by doing the activities I enjoy.
What about the essences from najatar and mechagon? the original post said they wouyld be avail to anyone who had any level of them but i have not gotten any of the currency
Seems legit. I might actually play my mage again.
Why on earth would they fight people on this, is it worth giving up even more player trust over an imaginary currency? How many people logged in today to try out the new system, only to deal with bugs/confusion/blizzard ineptitude, and blizz blaming us for it to boot.
Blizz, you made the mistake in not implementing this correctly or at least alerting us to your poor job of handling it, take responsibility and give people the echoes they earned.
You mean the messenger who failed to deliver the message? The messenger who told us to go f ourself? The messenger who never apologize?
I forgot the part where Kaivax said “lol jokes we knew you had to log onto your main first all along. We deliberately didn’t tell you so you would all miss out! Hah!”
They gave the message they were given, that is their job.
I work in software, and product would eat our devs for lunch of we required logging into the correct shared accounts (characters) in order to update state. Whatever state is updated by logging into the “main” character should have just been a db migration. Feel free only to update characters that have been logged in the last month, or whatever reduces the migration runtime, but this is not good practice.
And then…what’s there to do for players who don’t care to play alts? While I’m not saying BfA is a great expansion, your suggestions would lead to an extremely shallow endgame. Kinda like every expansion up to WoD had. Run the new raid a few times, you got your gear, now there’s nothing to do on that character.
So…should the game be designed for alts, or should it be designed for mains? Players who only play one or two characters should have something to keep them busy as well. What would these things be in a game where gear is essentially a shopping list that you can check off in a couple of raid resets?
arrrgh! I was mid opening my M+ chest when I found out I had to log into main first… So i stopped switched to main and opened chest… logged back into my alt and my chest was already looted and mailed to me…without any echoes… so frustrating!
You should have just given out the currency regardless of eligibility and this mess wouldn’t have happened.
If the company I work for made such a mess and I’m the one who has to deliver the news to a bunch of angry customers, apologizing and try to put down the fire is the least I can do, because that’s MY job. Not coming out here and just deliver the message acting “welp it’s not my business”.
Yeah sure, he didn’t made the mess, that’s not his fault, but as a CM do you think he’s doing a great job?
I wasn’t even angry when I found out this issue before they figured out what’s wrong, it was the way they came out and just say “no”, and that’s is, just no.
If it was me I would at least say something like: “It was our mistake and we’re truly sorry because we’re unable to recover your missing echoes due to xxx technical issues”. That sounds much better init?
There certainly are a lot of grumpy people here…
I guess blizzard should not have tacked on that weird requirement. I was hoping the essences would be BoA but oh well. My alts will get them eventually or I just will not play the alts.
OK, I did that. “That’s it”. Got it.
Once you’ve logged into a character who has a Rank 3 Essence, all of your other characters (that are eligible) will begin seeing Echoes as rewards.
Thus, if you have two characters who have different Rank 3 Essences, you’ll want to log into both of them first, each unlocking the Echoes for the other.
OK, so, that’s not “it” then, there’s a secret, more different step. How was I to know that, by chance? I missed out on quite a few echos from my mythic and pvp chests because I didn’t know this one detail. How is this ok?
Oh my 100 echoes what ever will you do!
Imagine treating that like a big deal.
I don’t know what situation you’re in but sure you may apologize etc etc most companies would.
But most of those companies would also make the message as a general announcement from their company not an announcement from a known individual, usually also on a platform that is either unable to responded to or unmonitored.
Thus the outrage is not targeted at a specific person directly.
I never commented on whether a good or a bad job is being done. But I ask you how much harder would your job be with communications if your client base was known for being venomously toxic individuals hiding behind internet personas?
Have you read any of the vitriol in this thread? I’d be surprised if anyone can effectively perform their jobs whilst being insulted with such filth.
The issue isn’t unlike any that we have seen in the past, pretty much 100% of account bound things (remember Champion of Azeroth rep?transmog?) Require you to first log onto your main so that the game recognizes the completion.
Not sure why anyone expected any different for this specific circumstance when this has always been the case.
remember Champion of Azeroth rep?
I don’t remember seeing threads about it so I might not be on the forum at that time.
transmog
I’m pretty sure this didn’t happen during bfa so I haven’t started playing when that happened.
your client base was known for being venomously toxic individuals hiding behind internet personas?
Can’t say about others, but you think I’m toxic? Let’s say there’s others like me who encountered this for the first time, and the “messenger” choose to ignore us , does that give them the excuse to dismiss our disappointment as “toxic”? So it’s fine for us to drown in our own resentment and become “toxic” and it’s all our fault?
Honestly it doesn’t but we also can’t expect them to interact to the individual so they have to stereotype as a whole.
Why do you think there is no communication these days?
Every time something is said a mass of people immediately jump on them and spit venom.
We kick and scream for more communication and when it does happens they are treated like garbage. So as you would expect they shy away from making any comment what so ever, and noone can blame them really.
I just feel like if we want to get anywhere it will come through empathy and understanding rather than harsh words.
People instinctively act defensively when they are attacked and that means any good points that people have to say gets lost as soon as they take an aggressive stance.
We can’t expect them to listen when we talk with hate, nor can we expect them to increase communication for the same reason.
It just makes the situation worse rather than better.
