Yes, because you’re a druid.
The toon I ground it out on is a Hunter. I cannot buy the off-specs to have then learned for this essence system.

I’m not going to make assumptions about people’s reasons to post what they do. Not everyone is going to have done the math as they were reading, and really it is just a load of numbers that on first glance is overwhelming.
Reading the room after the announcement, some of the initial response to this was going to be negative no matter what they did, given they weren’t going to give them out for free.
Before Legion I never would believe Blizzard would not only make people level grind and Rep grind but also AP grind and Essence grind in the name of progression, just to turn around and nerf them because it’s the end of a expansion.
They could of just made the damn expansions Alt friendly to begin with. Everything unlocks for your alts once you main has completed the required tasks.
Then people would be more inclined to play not only mains but more alts . No one wants to grind the same damn rep for the 14th time just to get a essence but yet doing a grind on 1 toon should yield some better benefits for Alts .
A lot of people would prefer for WoW to act more like a lobby game where they can swap their character every 30 min.
Ok that is legitimately a problem, I’d hypothesised it being a possibility but didn’t expect them to actually mess it up. Jeez…
I’m still going to want clarification on live that that’s the case before I’m legitimately mad about that though.
Yeah, I’m reserving judgement until tomorrow. I posted more than a couple times in the original thread, wasn’t answered in this one, so I’m posting about it a few more times. Just in case it makes a difference and it’s fixed for the live version.
ah yes the crossover between exaggeration and basic trolling.
people’s bored already
I will figure out if I want to take part on this “re grind 8.3 from scratch” on my own as everyone else will for sure but you will not feed me with “this is a catchup system”
So, I guess you’re apologizing for your defensive position of assuming?
yep. This is the first time that I can ever recall feeling the need to log on every day. It’s honestly wearing on me. As you are kinda saying, it’s an intangable that you might take awhile to pick up on. As in, you don’t know what you don’t like, but you just aren’t enjoying yourself. At first, when the content is new, it’s fine as there is a lot to learn, explore, etc. Once that wears off though you realize… wow, i’m logging on every day just to punch more time card. The frustrating thing is, your toon really benefits from that.
So there is that constant feeling that you’re missing out. FOMO. If I don’t log on today, I might miss out on that upgrade or that next thing. It’s like this weird prisoner’s dilemma at play where you never know what the other guy is going to say or do. The assumption is the other guy is going to do this, so you have to do it as well. In the end, you both aren’t necessarily better off because of it… but you just don’t know.
That would make me… amazingly happy. I would love to just veg out on a sunday and just enjoy my day doing quests and whatever else I didn’t get to for the week. This constant pressure to stay current and do everything to have that extra edge (within your capability), just makes the game start to feel like a job.
Yea, it’s why I had to stop raiding. Just couldn’t have a second job after work. Life has to be fluid and the game just isn’t that. Would be great if when the invasion zones appeared that ALL the quests were available right off. Maybe you have todo the first 4 to unlock the next 4 and etc. How cool would that be?
As is, I have so much down time some evenings and little to do. But… I might not have enough time for a raid or dungeon, but plenty enough to knock out a few quests. Uggg… that would be so nice.
Yep yep. When those things were basically essential, falling a week behind for raiding was rough.
Back in BC, the netherdrake grind was what dailies should be about. Cosmetic stuff, mounts, recipes, etc. There could be… some essential things in there, but not like what we have now. Essences are massive for some specs. To not have them is a huge loss.
Yep. I hate it. Not that I hate the content… I really don’t. I actually kinda like them. It’s a nice change of pace. What I don’t like is logging in everyday to do them. I was supposed to be working this past weekend at a motorcycle show and I actually contemplated taking my laptop to do a few things in the hotel… Ugg. Shouldn’t be that way.
Yea, even that would be great. Two semi planned events that have decent windows to play in. That would make the game so much more easy to manage with life.
it necessarily means you still have to play the alt before they can topple someone’s main however now you don’t have to grind too hard, it just happens. would still be better if it was something a main could do the grinding for and just buy a BoA token for an alt though.
Take it how you want lol
Given how essence tracking already works in game (Via achievements). I would assume that the system is based on having the achievement for the essence, if it’s one of the multi role reward essences. As long as you have earned 30k honour on 1 char, you have access to all 3 role essences.
Currently, I cannot log into my tank alt and buy the Sphere of Suppression even though I have the achievement. That’s because the Achievement is the Hunters, not the tanks. I hope it turns it into what you’re saying.
I should have specified the whole system is currently character specific anyway until next reset.
Because rather than doing the content to get an Essence on your alt, you need to do the content to get an Essence on your alt…
Got it? (If so, you are ahead of me).
You mean, by doing the same content you did in 8.1 and 8.2 then finally getting to 8.3 just when everybody else has gone on break?
you need to do 8.3 content to get relevant gear so why not get essences while you are doing 8.3 content as well
Yeah! Just take the rep gates out.
I think it’s more so that we wanted what are considered the best essences for our alts (depending on the situation), but we felt restricted by having to repeat things we already did that we might not find enjoyable, i.e. having to do PvP activities for an essence that is good in PvE for certain classes. This was especially the case for the rep-gated essences for 8.2 factions while we’re mostly busy with 8.3.
I also understand the restriction of account-wide power progression, but most of the time in patches prior to 8.2 we gained power for certain activities we enjoyed just by doing said activities. Giving players incentives to try different kinds of content is fine, but if I’m looking to do specific content but require doing other content to perform well on every alt, that incentive just diminishes.
So that said, I’m glad you have reconsidered how to handle essences for alts, this seems like a fair system that focuses on the current content we’re already doing with more options, which is always appreciated.
So more grinding. Thanks. Thats what we all wanted right? More grinding.
