MMOs are living proof that people will latch on to the most mundane thing and champion it until they’re hoarse. I guess everyone’s looking for a hill to die on, even if it’s a molehill.
WoD Pathfinder? Yeah, didn’t like it, it was clearly a last minute choice, one that wouldn’t have even come to pass if folks hadn’t been so upset about no flying.
Legion Pathfinder? Totally fine, you unlocked it by playing the expansion at the most basic level, casual content. The only people who made it hard on themselves were the geniuses who wanted to get it a week earlier so they farmed nethershards for hours on end, in one of the most hilarious displays of cutting off your nose to spite your face I’ve ever seen. I bet the devs immediately started drinking when they saw that was happening.
BfA? Even more straightforward. The only thing that would improve it? They make Pathfinder in its entirety able to be completed at Xpac launch.
But really, even that wouldn’t stop the knee jerk ‘PATHFINDER BAD’ that has become the rallying cry of some people. So… they make it so that it’s per character only, and costs as much as 5k did back in BC. I.E an objectively worse model for players, but hey, that’s how it was done before, in the good old days.
And please, don’t kid yourselves. You didn’t quit because of Pathfinder, you quit because the game is 15 years old and you were looking for an excuse to move on to something else.
