As I understand it, classic timewalking having a minimum character level of basically nothing was to let everyone participate in the event. I could be wrong but the impression I have is that the minimum level will be back up to 30 when next we see it in regular rotation.
If so, THANK GOD!
Look, I am all about including everyone, but bridging level 11 fury warrior tanks into the same groups as level 80 folks, in a mode meant to “scale to your true level,” (which clearly wasn’t the case because level 11’s were GODS) was just busted, and really only forgiveable in light of the anniversary event.
I’m not saying “rawr it should be hard for you get good,” I’m saying that with great power (like that low end scaling) comes great responsibility, and if there’s one thing the WoW PUG community can’t be asked to show, it’s responsibility!
I don’t understand why we needed timewalking to “scale to your true level” instead of the often reasonably generous fixed gear levels of old, but coupling that with “but everyone below level 20 is GOD” was a weird combo. I won’t miss it, assuming it’s going away.
I will. It’s a very small percentage of players that do TW dungeons for fun. Everyone else is either leveling or farming badges; and if a level 11 warrior makes that take 10 minutes instead of 30 I’m all for it. I’ve done these dungeons a thousand times already. Get in, get out, go next.
Fairly certain the change was to timewalking in general. They changed how it scales. Instead of being brought down, it just scales to you, or something.
Expect Level 11s (and everyone else 10+) to stay in Timewalking.
What’s going away should just be BRD and the Anniversary Currency.
All of that said, if twinks existing in Timewalking bugs you, it should bug you in leveling dungeons too. Advocate for Blizzard to actively tune the poor scaling they implemented instead of slapping it on as they did and then never looking back.
I love Twinking, I have several right now, but the over-generous low-level scaling is absurd even by normal standards. You can make an Allied Race (to start at 10) and then just start soloing dungeons in the greens they start in, if you’re using one of the better specs. People will twink regardless. The scaling needs to be toned down for everyone.
And Lifestealing probably needs to be specifically targeted for standalone nerfs in that bracket as well. That’s the one non-exploit “twink” thing that’s blatantly overtuned and will probably remain blatantly overtuned even if scaling is adjusted. Most enchants scale and are fine.
I ran several dungeons last few days. And 90% of them were the entire team skipping almost 90% of the dungeon - I could not complete any quests or enjoy it at all I just felt like I was running forward the whole time.
My time in retail ended there for good unless they make changes. Retail is pretty garbage.
The deal with retail dungeons is that most people are just on alts doing it for easy experience, and like 95% of the experience comes from the bonus at the end for completing the dungeon. It’s faster leveling to just zerg to the end instead of hitting optional bosses.
If you’re hoping for full clears of dungeons that aren’t faceroll speedruns, you either stick to Classic (assuming you’re not being mage boosted or something) or you stick it out until Endgame and do M+ - which is still inherently speedrunny, but you’re forced to kill every boss and a good amount of the trash.
They could choose to have done the same if say a level 10 has full 70 gear it treats it like it’s level 20.
I didn’t really want them to do either for the record but if mobs are getting up to 1.6x stronger as I get stronger then maybe that should apply to more folks.
