Actually the ruin really started in WoD.
Cata for many was the beginning of the end, but MoP was pretty awesome.
However, WoD was the start of a steep decline and the game has never recovered from it. I know lots of people liked Legion, but compared to anything that came before WoD, it was 
I do not trust this dev team to do anything right. Turn them loose on Classic and it too, will soon get frankensteined into some weird Diablo3/WoW hybrid.
They cannot even make classes work properly! Hunters and their pets: numerous problems; Rogues; the same; Warriors: OH gets no hit penalty? REALLY? Not a bug? PUHLEEZE; Priest bubble inconsistent… the list goes on.
Honestly I don’t think there’s anyone at Blizzard now who even knows how the game worked back then. Having to rely on guesswork and dev notes from 15 years ago has gotten us where we are now.
