#nochange calls them loladins

It’s quite simple Bonespire.

Because I was actually one of those Paladins back in 2005 raiding MC and buffing everyone while only healing.

I got an authentic experience in playing the atrocious Paladin class in raids. Why should people who want a classic experience want see it any different? Ever go on a Pioneer Trek? First rule is to turn off your phone, otherwise why even bother?

Classic servers should remain as Museum pieces.

My first toon ever was a Paladin which has only ever been Ret since I started in TBC. Almost 6000 hours on him. Maining a rogue for classic. Sometimes you just gotta accept things and move on.

A good raid leader puts together a group with the best chance of succeeding. If you have another comparably geared DPS you can use besides a Retadin, you do it …end of story.

I feel like a lot of people thought classic was a much different animal then what it is. When it was released, Blizzard had no idea how to build or run an MMO… It was not until WOTLK that they were able to make all specs of the hybrid classes Viable in raiding.

Play spelladin, farm 800 MCP, play with a guild that isn’t stuck in the 2005 mindset

To my recollection ret was a joke until the wotlk pre patch. Its just how it was.

then dont roll a paladin?
even with absolute BIS and ALL cosumables , a rogue in blues will out dps you

For a variety of reasons. For one, nobody is forcing anyone to roll a Paladin, and to strictly do so to perform a DPS role. That is a choice that someone might make. If they do make that choice, then they will be taking the good with the bad.

Heck, even if it wasn’t a choice, there certainly is no consensus that quality of outcome is desirable. I for one do not think it is, at all, but that’s not even the issue here. You have a choice.

If you feel like you really want to raid as a ret paladin, and you really want to raid, then you will likely have to work harder for gear, and may even have to form your own raid group.

On the other hand, how many guilds have you talked to about this, who have flat out rejected you? I vaguely recall some guild postings that stated they were fine with shadow priests, Boomkins and ret pallies, so you could maybe get into one of those guilds.

If your point is that all specs for all classes should be equally viable in all aspects of the game though, then I think you are missing one critical point about something people greatly prefer about Classic WoW over Retail…

Rets got spots in raids.

However, my plan is to roll Holy. I like healing.

I was tanking SM from levels 30-40 with prot talents, never wiped once. Dungeon tanking is literally not that hard.

Not really decent, just carried. Actually look at Esfand doing that crap. Most of the stuff is just running around untanked hitting whoever. Carried by healer.

this is only true if you are looking just at builds that had been developed during the initial release

I think it would be fair to say that different specs should be good at different jobs/areas of the game, iiiif respec wasn’t as cost prohibitive. And maybe if content types were a bit more diverse at 60

No one can force you to do anything. As streamers have shown with their MC clears, the bar for raid dps is so extremely low that being able to dps as anything shouldn’t be an issue.

I can only speak for myself, of course.

As a casual player I don’t even care if this paladin makes it to 60. Raiding is not my focus. I briefly considered leveling as something other than Prot but the first time I donned a shield it felt so right that I probably will only give up the shield for a little while when I’m using Verigan’s fist. And if I do make it to 60 and want to sub in a raid once in a while I don’t think I’d be terribly opposed to healing it.

If I decide that I want a paladin tank that other players respect I can go back to my main character on retail. Or if the later levels are too weird for me maybe start a level 1 character on retail or something. But that all assumes that I stick with the main idea long enough to develop a desire to go back to retail and not to some other hobby entirely.

Don’t worry about that, find a guild that isn’t top 10 world and you’ll have no problems.

Just be prepared to put in the work if you want to DPS as a hybrid, it’s not as simple as collect some gear and you’re good to go, no. Some of these specs (Shadow, Boomkin, Ret etc) NEED certain pieces to even do marginally good.

I’m having no problem out dpsing people in my dungeons while healing. Mind you I’m only level 25, but I’ve beaten people a few levels higher than me in damage.

VOD or it didnt happen

That’s because you’re a mage and any instructions beyond…

FROSTBOLTFROSTBOLTFROSTBOLTFROSTBOLTFROSTBOLTFROSTBOLTFROSTBOLTFROSTBOLTFROSTBOLTFROSTBOLTFROSTBOLT

…is too complicated to follow.

See, Paladins actually have the highest AoE threat in the game. Hands down. Zero contest. This is a mathematical fact. If you have had no success with a pally tank then that’s YOUR fault. Because unlike Retail, Classic DPSers need to control their $h*t or get booted from the raid.

You’ll be given instructions on when to dump, when to hold, when to move etc. if you don’t follow those instructions you get kicked. Because that’s how aggro works in Vanilla. This ain’t “ezMode-nothin-can-pull-aggro-off-me” retail. You need to work together.

SO… if you have had problems with Pally tanks… fun fact… YOU were the problem. Not them.

And this is coming from a Warlock/Rogue player.

Right…

…then why do I beat most everyone I encounter in PvP AND out DPS most people in dungeons huh?

Answer me that without the generalized “cUz u GoT lUcKy” or “tHe OtHeR pLaYeRs SuCkEd”.
