That post as wrong AF fyi. Prot Pally is more capable than druids and warriors in 5 man content.
Blame 2004-2008 blizzard. It’s not our fault hybrid classes can only actually fill one role (except warriors).
prior to greater blessings, paladins spent half the time buffing/cleansing, and nothing was stopping you from meleeing with a 2h and seal of command at the same time as you were doing that. In fact, it was the correct way to play. I did a large fraction of the DPS of a pure dps class at the same time as I was doing all that buffing/debuffing/cleansing.
In this post I was more talking about their end-game competitiveness, as well as the attitudes of players towards them. This post was many levels ago and in that time frame, it’s been my experience that while Prot Paladins can handle the content just fine, they come with challenges that are greater than Druid and Warrior tanks.
I wrote up my observations in the following post. Maybe have a look and let me know what you’ve had differing experiences with?

but it looks like by this hot fix we can see blizzard approves of reckoning being triggered via spell batching and weapon twisting

I’m all for Paladin’s tanking. But if the community doesn’t want us tanking or DPSing, then that’s that.
It’d be nice to see an ‘all Paladin’ raid clear MC, take down Ony, fix the ‘troll problem’, show Orkin how it’s done, and finally put the dead back in the grave.
Just to show that it can be done.
…however, I also know that players are going to gravitate to the classes which make for the smoothest runs/clears. :\
I don’t care, I am going to play RET even if it takes two or three xpacs until I am Raid viable.

I really hope their dps is due to their gear. Because it’s waay less than what others are posting on Warcraftlogs. - Magmadar fight, highest DPS is ~445 (warrior); #993 (lowest Ally warrior for top 1k) spot over at WCL is 552.4. :\
Just pointing out that if the entire raid isn’t doing the best on DPS, you coming in at “top 7” isn’t as impressive.

I think you want to play retail where all those things you said are already a reality.
I ran ZF with an actual prot spec pally. He did an amazing job on the AOE pulls. You just have to have the right group comp.
Prot pally using ret aura. casting salv on the dps
Druid any spec with improved thorns cast on pally. Using hurricane on aoe 1 min cd
Priest- using nova for extra aoe dps
2 aoe dps.
With that group we massive pulled and everything dies so fast. He never lost aggro once.

The very first thing i do not want … is the current Blizzard crew balance Classic. WoW under Ion Hazzikostas did only one thing … get worse with each new Expansion where he had a bigger role(Lore wise, and especially since WoD there had to be a gimmick in each Expansion).
What i meant was if each side had those two Classes it would be good balance wise. But i not want huge changes … that would not be Vanilla anymore.
If thats what i want … Retail is still there for that. Classic should be and stay … as a remainder how it all started.

Find a guild that doesn’t care (I’m in one) and play whatever you want. Raids are not nearly as hard as they were in the past. Anything can be done by any class and combination, within reason. Because this just happens to be classic, and many people are coming off of the private servers with an elitist mentality and the new wave of min/max, bis nonsense, you will see this type of thing around for some time yet until everyone realizes that you are not really pigeonholed into anything. As much of a sad state of affairs as it is that Blizzard decided to roll with kiddie classic instead of something more faithful to vanilla, they did everyone a favor by making it much more accessible so that even casual retail players can jump in and get things done without any past experience as long as they have the mind to do so.
In short; break the mold, crash the system, do whatever you want and be proud of it. Yes, your spec is not ideal, but who cares.
Go play retail then. Hope you’re joking.

If you look around … most people state THE burning Crusade or Wrath of the Lich King as their beloved version of WoW.
I wonder why that is? Isn’t everyone loving no-flying, poor Class balance?
