The difference with Warriors is they’re the only “hybrid” that can’t heal. Being able to Heal or DPS seems to be a sticking point with Blizz hence the huge nerfs to the healing capabilities of all the DPS specced hybrids in Live after WOD.
Play your Pally if you wanna play your Pally. Heal until the raids are on farm, then tell your guild youre ready for your alt spec pieces. If you’re in a guild that won’t accommodate you get another guild. It’s that easy.
Pallys are top heals, and tank 5 man’s just fine, pallys are also great pvp heals with several good set ups for pvp did and utility. Pallys are also great dungeon solo farmers and can make Bank soloing lowbie dungeons.
Don’t listen to all the Pally hate in the fora. Most of it is trolling and bull.
HEY man its all about role playing… n stufff… level alts… and ugghh… max out fishing… oh but no changes cus Paladins being good would hurt other hybrids like warriors.
But if you had the choice between a class with a taunt, and one without. Why would you go with the one without…unless it was absolutely necessary (ie: looking for a tank for nearly half an hour or more)?
Yeah, paladins can tank if you give them a lot of time to build aggro or if they have the perfect talents but why not just get a druid or warrior? I’d even rather take a fury warrior that plops ona shield over a paladin. -This is coming from someone that heals in random groups. Sure, you could get a paly to work in a coordinated guild but you’re never going to stop randos from taking aggro off of the paladin. Every time a paladin tanks my dungeons, I’m pretty much out of mana every fight because the aggro goes all over the place.
If we’re expanding beyond Classic, then DKs would also be in the same boat as Warriors; Blood is not a healing tree.
But I am not interested in what Blizzard has done to evolve the game. I’m look and seeing all of the other hybrid classes out-DPSing both Paladin and Shaman, to a degree that is ridiculous. - Heck, even the other Healer Hybrids out-DPS Pally and Shammy ‘by a country mile’. Even the other ‘tri-role’ class [Druid] is out-DPSing Paladins (which, on paper look to be a tri-role; Shammy looks like they were thinking about it, but dropped the matter and never went back to change talents around).
I can totally see why people don’t want to bring in a Ret. You literally need two rets for every one other DPS you replace. Just to maintain the same raid-wide DPS.
((With the need to not go deep into Shammy/Pally DPS trees for better group buffs. They get stuck healing. So while these two classes bring incredibly powerful group buffs, which help the others achieve those insane DPS numbers. The two classes don’t need to invest heavily into the DPS trees.))
Honestly, I rolled Ret even though I knew most pug groups wouldn’t let me raid, but I mained a ret on retail and recreated that character for Classic. I enjoy it for the most part. But All of the issues with Ret that everyone’s mentioning is almost 100% true. Just find a chill guild to raid with and you’ll be fine. Play whatever class/spec you want man! Let the elitests be elitests. I promise you a lot of people don’t have that attitude, because it’s just a game lol.
Maybe actually look into why paladins generally don’t DPS or tank raids. There are a number of serious design issues that discourage it. People who complain that they can’t raid as ret just sound like they’re salty that their favorite spec/role isn’t good on one class and nobody will carry them instead of rolling something that actually works for that role.
While its true there are maybe a few Ret paladins, chill guilds also like to complete content easily. 10 mages, no problem. 10 Ret paladins, you’re fighting uphill.
I have played with a Prot Pally in LBRS. They were actually quite geared (full blues, 1 MC epic). The damage taken wasn’t an issue. Mana was a big issue. Basically you had to drink between every pull. Stemming from the mana issue was threat issues (even with salv, a comparatively worse geared mage/warlock could pull eventually).
Because a raid takes multiple tanks? Because that’s an extra warrior to do 1337 deepz? Because it’s a game and MC has proven to be 2-3x easier than what you see in Pserver videos?
Or are you perhaps talking about dungeons where taunting is a crutch and a few words and raid markers would be much more effective than relying on something that can be resisted?
You just have terrible paladin tanks that can’t prioritize targets. Warriors and druids would suffer even harder trying to keep aggro. Set up a skull and make sure everyone focuses the kill target first and once it’s dead, the paladin should have so much aggro on all the surrounding targets that it’s nearly impossible to peel.
Theory crafting is valuable. Since it wasn’t done effectively in the first iteration of the game because of the lack of support, it is being done now. Currently, work is being done on guides and new ways of going “Doh! Why didn’t I think of that before?” are being found. So, as of right now much of the issues people are having will eventually be alleviated to an extent that the paladin tank does not fall behind.
Yeah … Paladin Tanks back no issue with tread, the main issue is Mana.
The one time I actually saw a Protection Paladin I side a Dungeon was a Timed Stratholme run, for the upgrade quest of that Dungeon gear.
He worn T2, Quel’serrar … And he was oom every mob group. Thing is, I as. Also ce Druid healing him didn’t have to drink after each group.
The other thing is, like you said … They Tank with reflective damage … Which is passive and a big DPS eventually pulls the money off of you.
But that Mana problem and the fact that you can’t hold mobs for eternity some here on the forum not believe.
