Yeah, but paladins are pretty crappy tanks where druid are actually pretty decent.
-Every class in the game can DPS, it doesn’t make them a hybrid. Warriors and Priests can both do damage or fill another roll- like tank for warrior or heals for priest. Saying that a paladin CAN DPS in a raid is like saying any other class can, it’s kind of pointless and nobody would really seek one out for that reason. Saying that they have to pay the “hybrid” tax is fine but what about the priest hybrid tax where they can DPS or be the BiS heals? If paladins could actually tank like a druid, I’d be inclined to agree they should pay a hybrid tax but I have yet to see a paladin tank anything very well.
just remeber the highest dps spec for a paladin atm is int/crit/sp based that uses proc based damage to become equal dpsers in a raid setting.
so those blues that are bis for us will.cpme at the expense of mages complaining about us, and us complaong about the high gold cost to upkeep said dps because its so reliant on oils and food.
Honestly heres what you do - roll holy to go with the punches… then once you settle in and get your hands on something like an OEB - start dps’ing… youll be middle of the pack dps, middle of the pack heals, and youll make sure judgements are up - but youll still be contributing the same amount… if your heals drop by 50% and your dps increases by 50% to me thats a breakeven… the beauty of the hybrid classes is if you kinda need another healer… kinda need another dps… hybrid is what you need.
What? You must be getting some lousy players because Paladins are probably the best dungeon tanks…
As long as they have Imp RF and actually Salv their party, they can hold aggro on an unlimited number of mobs while doing significant Consecration and reflect damage.
Or… You could find a decent guild that will not care about the spreadsheets and min/maxing and let you play what you want to play? It’s not like you have to be in the best gear with the optimal talents to take down any of the raids. The no-lifers who downed Ragnaros within the first week of release proved that.
Any group that I lead will not have a Ret paladin. They’re buff bots at best, but can’t support well enough to supplement their utter lack of damage.
I mean, hell, I just did BRD as Fury. With my absolute worst RNG on pulls for misses/parries/dodges and no crits, with Bloodrage and Berserker Rage on cooldown (no Enrage or Death Wish), we would tie DPS. I also don’t have Tactical Mastery or Impale for a DPS build.
Vanilla class balance is borked. We knew it back then and we know it now. We know that Warriors/Mages/Priests are the premier classes that are top dogs in their designated positions in the holy trinity. We know that if your class can cast a heal spell, it’s what you will be expected to do if you want to tackle endgame content. I mean just a simple youtube search will reveal this to you with a plethora of videos claiming that Warriors are the “masterclass” of wow, and that Mages are so strong that you’d be foolish not to play one, priests are the most versatile healers etc and then they skirt around hybrid classes like “weeeelll they’re good healers lol”.
No amount of complaining/discussion will change it. This is what you thought you wanted, but you didn’t. Maybe you did? I know people who mained the aforementioned classes certainly would have, can’t speak for the others. As a Paladin main in Vanilla you couldn’t pay me to play one again. No effing thanks. Give us classic+ or wotlk and im there, but in the meantime its Warrior for me.
Ugh now i read it, i meant i never seen a Paladin Tank back in Vanilla.
I didn’t run allot Dungeons in Classic yet … main issue finding a group … i rather quest around
