No Repeats in the Great Vault, please. (Solutions Proposed)

For the past 3 weeks, I have gotten the same item (or almost identical) as my best available (Mythic +15) in my great vault. It takes a lot for me to complete a key at this level and it is beyond disappointing to continually get an item I already have.

It went like this:
2 weeks ago, I received the exact chest I am wearing.
1 week ago, I received the exact ring I am wearing (I couldn’t even equip it, because rings are unique. Literally any other ring would’ve been helpful, but it repeated the exact same ring, so no help there.)
Today, I received a wrist that was different than what I have equipped, but with the exact same stats.

Out of the dozens and dozens of options for Mythic + pieces in the Great vault, it is poor programming to allow pieces to repeat as often as they do. I know I am not alone in this, because I hear people complain about it all the time.

There are easy code fixes to this:

  1. Make sure items do not repeat, once chosen previously from the great vault.
  2. Allow a check box where they player can select whether or not they want the ability to get repeat items.
  3. Include a “Bonus Roll” to be chosen up to the level of the item available for those who do not like their options from the great vault. If you have a 226 item coming to you, then you are given to take a bonus roll that you can either use in a Mythic 15 dungeon or up to a Mythic Raid Boss. Also, make this a 100% guaranteed bonus roll. I would gladly love the choice between a 226 item in my vault and a bonus roll guarantee on a mythic boss.

Option 3 above actually makes the game much more fun, and a lot less punishing for those with a bad luck streak at the vault. We all miss our bonus rolls, and having a 100% guaranteed roll given to us as an option for our hard work would be very nice to say the least.

I know there are a lot of hard core players who will say to grind multiple 14s and 15s to get more choices, but like I said, for some of us it’s difficult to get one done a week with outside commitments, and to be continually disappointed and depressed every Tuesday saps a lot of fun from the game.

My dad, rest his soul, used to call it DT (Disappointing Tuesday). Maybe we can work to ensure Tuesdays are fun. I would love to hear other’s solutions… as well as other’s horror stories of what they are getting from their vault.

it’s all rng. it’s nice to have control over things, but i don’t think drop chances are something the devs want you to control unfortunately.

Post on your main. Could be that you arn’t running high enough content which would guarantee you an upgrade, if you are wearing under 226.

So you got something different.

Sounds like a personal problem if you can only run 1 key a week.


Bottom line, you are unlocking 1 slot per week and upset with the results.

I agree and I am one of those who don’t mind rng in principle. I’m just wondering if they would consider removing repeats or allowing us to spice up the reward system a little bit to guard against multiple weeks of bad rng.

When it first happened, I was like "this stinks, but oh well. The next week, I was like “Are you kidding me?” Today, I just hit “Alt-F4” and stopped playing entirely.

After my dad passed in October, I stopped playing the game for a few months. I was 11/12 mythic with 200 or so pulls on Mythic N’zoth going for my first Cutting Edge. It was too painful to log on, because of all my memories playing with him over the years. I finally decided to make a new character to honor hi,. A hunter, like him. However, things like this just add to the sadness and I was hoping to get a discussion going that the Devs might see and contribute to them making our game play just a little less disappointing and a little more fun.

i’d also like them to be a little more creative with the way we aquire loot in this game. I think they’ve done it right in the past, but shadowlands is just rough. :sweat:

I don’t know about that.
There are so many duplicates for weeks in a row it can’t possibly be rng. The odds of getting an item 6 times in a row (and someone did have this happen) are astronomical to the point that hearing multiple people having the same issue you can’t for a second believe it’s truly rng.

trust me, it’s rng. you may be able to narrow it down to fewer items via your loot specialization, and # of boxes, but it’s complete chance. did a dev say otherwise? i’m curious why you sound so confident lol

I do enjoy this idea of not getting the same items multiple times at the same level from the vault. However, what would you do when people have looted every item at 226? Would it simply refresh? At that point, the vault rewards might not matter anyway.

Oh no I flipped a coin and it landed heads 12 times. Universe must be broken. There’s always a bell curve in statistics. Some people get the short end of the stick.

Thank you. It’s been very hard. So many things in the game remind me of him. It’s good and sad at the same time.

Shadowlands is rough. I think the Devs concentrate so much on supplying enough content that they forget we like our shiny pixels too. I feel like they don’t realize how excited we get to open our weekly vault/chest. It is a huge deal for a lot of us, and we wait all week for that moment. I think if they realized that, they might make sure they do all they can to ensure we’re happy with the results.

I hear you Sosari, and I really don’t want to come off as whiny. If it were a 50/50 thing, it would make more sense, but there is a large universe of available mythic dungeon items, so to get the exact same item as I have equipped 2 weeks in a row should be outside the norm, but I hear of this happening a lot.

All I want to suggest is a way to turn off repeats or perhaps offer a bonus, if you don’t want/need/get a repeat of the item in question.

Wild, my suggestion for that is to add the option of a bonus roll equivalent to the item level of the to vault item. It could be used in the current raid tier or any mythic plus dungeon with a 100% drop rate. That would keep the chest relevant even longer in the season/tier.

That’d be pretty nice, but, that would not coincide with the goals of the current structure. They want you to keep grinding those keys.

Sometimes you win, I finally got a 2H weapon on my DK above 220 last week, sometimes you lose - this week I got the same gloves I’ve gotten 4 times.

It’s just super lame sometimes :unamused:

Sleezy, I have seen this similar thing happen to others as well. It’s so astronomical that it lends itself to thought that the Devs intentionally slant toward similar items to keep people playing longer to build their character. Unfortunately, it has the opposite effect for a lot of us and we become discouraged and play less or spend more time on other games.

I believe it is in the best interest of all players to make the game fun for all players. The more who play, the more robust the game becomes, and the higher the likelihood of the game continuing for many more years.

I think that is a fun idea! Maybe, also, getting all the loot at the highest level on a character could add a permanant +3 every m+ vault reward to every character on that account up to the highest level. So your alts can chill in 12s and get 226 :slight_smile:

We went from 1-2 chances at an upgrade (M+/PvP chests) to 9 chances at an upgrade (3 for raid, 3 for dungeon, 3 for PvP).

The risk of duplicates is already HUGELY mitigated from what it was before.

If we go any further in ensuring that you get something that’s a legitimate upgrade every time, then the entire system should just be scrapped and replace with oldschool JP/VP style vendors (or, a variation of Titan Residuum, to ensure the game encourages playing content appropriate for your gear/skill instead of farming Heroics).

Which would be fine. Plenty of people wanted that when Blizz mentioned bringing back Valor, and it’s not what we got. But let’s not pretend this isn’t what you’re aiming for.

As long as the Vault or a similar system exists, the intent is that it IS RNG. The more you do, the higher the chance that you can choose an RNG item that’s actually a benefit to you, but it’s still RNG.

So just go ahead and suggest scrapping the system. That’s what you’re after.

I’m an IT Project Manager in real life, and if I saw my customers getting the same gloves 4 times, and other players experiencing these types of things, I would immediately implement fixes to improve the user experience. I pride myself on user experience. I cannot imagine development staff reading this and not busting their backsides to immediately try to find a way to ensure these repeats stop happening in their code.

This is key.

The RNG mitigation process is running lots of content to get lots of options in the vault. As far as I know, the vault does NOT repeat, so you will get (3, 6, 9) different pieces.

That’s not to say it’s not exhausting. I only run a single +10 a week to tickle my vault. The idea of running 4 of them is…daunting.

Becoz many people like yourself are WRONG.

On history, weekly vault came from weekly cache… from Mythic+. Mythic+ serves as stepping stone towards the hardest content which is Mythic Raiding. It means it would help you gear up towards Mythic Raiding instead of doing Normal or Heroic Raid. Mythic+ and its weekly cache is just an alternate route instead of doing Normal and Heroic Raid. However, Mythic+ and Weekly cache IS NOT MYTHIC RAIDING.

Once you gear up on Mythic+15, you are Mythic Raid ready. Your gear progression should be on finishing Mythic Raids. It’s just this cute Shadlowands Weekly Vault is so generous as it gives ilevel 226 gear weekly equal to ilevel of the loots of the first Bosses of Mythic Raid.

What should Blizz could have done was put M+15 weekly vault ilevel below Mythic Raid ilevel like before. But I am not complaining. I am okay for what the current vault has.

On lower Vault gear loots below ilevel 226, if you are getting duplicate/triplicate no upgrade, it’s becoz you stayed very long for that key level. You have to move up to the next key level that carries higher ilevel loot every after week to avoid duplicates with no upgrade. On me, this week is my 24th Consecutive weeks of ALL UPGRADES on Weekly Vault. But I am staying long now at peak on M+14 and 15s. I have lower chance of getting upgrade on succeeding weeks. It would mean that I would be Mythic Raid gear ready if I choose to go to that path. I am just Casual. If I get a chance, I would Raid.
