So, nothing new added to the game, and you expect people to buy it?
That’s uhh… a take.

Amount of work invested does not equate to better quality.
Sure SL took longer (even got pushed back) and it’s regarded as a horrible expansion. People hated being locked to a covenant, torghast was renamed to Choreghast because people hated it so much. Just because it took longer to make doesn’t mean it’s better.
Blizzard has moved away from the “gimmick of the expansion” design and it’s for the better.
They’re establishing a foundation they can build off of long term instead of trying to entice players with the shiny new gimmick that they’ll take away the second a new expansion drops.
Gear is the reward, not a system you’re forced to jump through to get the reward.
It’s easy to see why players like one and not the other.
Yeah, instant gratification.
I’d rather keep the systems (Artifact/Azerite with essences) since they improved my character with everything I did instead of RNG loot drops.
Too bad the majority feels like you do.
The masses do not understand your “What if?” premise. I know what you are implying but it seems mostly the masses do not.
To answer, yeah I would.
Welcome to season 72!
Elden Ring could release an entire DLC that lets me walk around and just incrementally die every 30 minutes in a new area with no monsters or items in it, and I would buy it.
The majority feels this way because systems force you to invest in them for multiple years, and then when the next expansion rolls around it’s all deleted and ripped away.
All your work, time invested, just gone. It doesn’t feel good.
Gear isn’t even a fair comparison because gear doesn’t require constant investment (especially now that the catalyst is a thing) and when you lose it, it’s because you’re replacing it with something better/stronger. Blizzard doesn’t just come in at the start of an expansion and delete all your gear.
This is already a thing every season for gear… so?
if you don’t grind and play organically, it’s never an issue.
Unless you only play high end M+, gear does “require” constant investment for improvement, what are you talking about? It’s no different than horizontal progression, except it DOES get reset at each tier, unlike the latter.
How is “replacing gear” different from “getting more AP” in that scenario, when it comes to player power?
Full mythic raid gear from the last patch of the last expansion is worse then any adventurer drop from X.0, in the current model, so it’s only a slight advantage in leveling content that disappears around level 8 of the new 10 levels progression.
All your work to get it, gone.
IMHO, some gear pieces should be good for the whole expansion. Legion really nailed this kind of gameplay and systems in a way that’s so perfect that I can’t think of a good complete alternative, just small adjustments, but it was clearly modeled like a Diablo 3 clone.
Again, that’s only my opinion.
I know many people disagree.
