No new features (what if)

If there’s no new feature in a expansion will people not play the game due to that reason even when the game is good?

I sure as heck ain’t payin’ all that money if there’s nothing new.

Feature I can live without if it doesn’t look appealing. I just need more zones.

This is literally Dragon Flight. Only it still wasn’t good.
Yes, people played it.
Hell, to many the lack of new new features/systems was the selling point.

I expect more than just new quests, stories, and dungeons if I am going to be spending money on an expansion when I already pay a subscription.

Dragonriding was a rather large new feature.

Did Cata really add anything? Are we counting the revamp of the old world? I don’t count LFR because it only came at the end, thus it wasn’t a marketing point. Same with LFD from Wrath.

While it was fun… I think they could have done more for Dragonflight. Dragon riding is definitely a improvement on the flying though.

If there are no new features, is the expansion really expanding?

it doesnt have to be features it expands upon

An expansion pack is additional content that enhances an existing game. It can add new characters, worlds, game mechanics, or adventures. Expansion packs are available for many types of games, including video games, tabletop games, and collectible card games.

How are these things NOT features?

im assuming you meant features as in, dragon fart i mean flying and uh, covenant slots and gimmick like racing cars

thats what i think OP meant by features too

blizzards definition of feature is definitely the thing that makes you play longer for the expansion aside from world expansion and story expansion.

I mean, new zones are a feature. A campaign storyline is a feature. New dungeons and raids are features. What would be the point of an expansion without at least those things?

The way I see it a “feature” to advertise an expansion on is something that provides a new gameplay mechanic. New zones are essentially just new versions of “collect 20 bear carcasses.” That’s not a feature. A feature is something like M+, or LFD, or reforging.

but the zone is an expansion on existing playable space

and yes what you said about those things, thats exactly what blizz definition of feature is

thus the OPs question

I would but only if they put the “extra” money and effort into story or some improvements to QoL

I see new features as big changes. Flight, dragon riding, mthic+ and what not.

Hmm. I wasn’t here at the time, but was Burning Crusade advertised with flying mounts? Because those, heroics and dailies are about all I can think of for BC’s new features.

Wrath at least brought achievements. And even though I downplayed Cata earlier, it was emphasised that the redesigned zones meant you could fly in the old world. That was a big deal.

wrath promised a lot judging by the reveal trailer

and most of that didnt even make it into the expansion

destructible buildings and path of the titans and dance studio to name a few

Ha, I don’t even remember most of those. I remember Path of the Titans but I coulda swore that was a Cata thing.

path of the titans may well be cata i just skimmed the trailer

and its not there. my mistake

however is that even a thing that made it into any expansion

i started end of wod so im not familiar with stuff pre my time

Path was cancelled. I think it was somewhat reworked into glyphs and maybe archaeology…
