No New Customizations is the "Don't you guys have phones" of 2021

First of all the art team and the content team aren’t the same.

Second you have to realise that to a lot of people hunting aesthetics is the primary form of content.

Problem is, blizzard made their name and impact as a pc game company. That is their customer and fanbase.

If they’re going to move into the mobile market, they are essentially abandoning yer current base and trying to court a whole new one.

Hence the “do you guys not have phones” blowback. This is a solid veteran community of people who have invested time and a lot of money into their setups. Why on earth would they abandon their 2-3000 dollar pc for a phone? It’s a downgrade.

Blizzard is making the assumption that their pc audience will be mobile gamers and we keep screaming “NO. WE ARE NOT. FIX THE GAMES YOU ALREADY MADE THAT WE LIKE.”

Blizzard might own candy crush, but Candy Crush fans are not blizzard fans.

They are two different markets and blizzard is conflating them be cause hearthstone and dollar signs.

PC gamers want big, in-depth investment games that make their rigs a worthwhile purchase. Why would we own the latest graphics card or processor or gaming mouse to play a mobile game?

It’s an insult to your own customer base. ESPECIALLY if our sub dollars for wow are being diverted to develop a game we didng ask for and don’t want.

I pay $20 a month for wow and I expect wow updates. Not hearthstone or call of duty mobile updates. I dont play those games.

No. Their target is China (well not only of course) and the mobile market and it’s gigantic. It’s sad, but it seems that’s how it is.
We are negligible for them after all. The new market (mobile) seems it worth to them.

I hate it.

I agree with what you’re saying for the most part, but the art team has to develop the art for the content, so just for the sake of fairness we should give them that. It doesn’t excuse them for how they’ve handled any of this though.

To me, it’s still the immediate “No. lol” that got me. So, they are saying that in no foreseeable occurrence, could they even possibly get any more customizations into Shadowlands, even after completely revamping the system to make it easier to add them? It just seems callous and counterproductive to respond that way, when so many people are passionate about it, and were looking forward to more.

Oh btw we can have tall, fair skinned, blonde, blue eyed and more High elves in Blade & Soul  just finished making my char there today and was able to choose hair colors ranging anywhere from black and blue/green to white and yellow/white. I decided I will not be a slave to corporate Blizzard anymore and not just do what I am told or expected to.

I just unsubbed because of this dishonesty from Blizzard and the game director. I haven’t unsubbed since WoD, so it’s not like I take this lightly. However, I’m not so Stockholm Syndromed that I will sit and make excuses for them and continue to pay for abusive behavior from the devs.

This assertation will be true… if a legit Warcraft title was on mobile (or even wow ported to mobile), i’d revive my old iphone 3s and 4 mobile gaming days in a heartbeat. So would many other players, possible even yourself included.

Also you’re forgetting games such as Call of Dooty and Hearthstone, both which started as PC games are wildly popular mobile apps that make more profit than their pc counterparts. So don’t be naive and think that PC games don’t work on mobile, because those two games (and many others) prove that PC franchises do work on mobile.

Unless blizzard makes a warcraft ARG like pokemon go that makes sense to be on a phone and outside, no. I bought a pc to play on a pc. They are two different markets that sometimes overlap, but aren’t the same.

Also, call of duty is not a Blizzard game, it’s an acquired title.

dont forget Call of Dooty, Fortnite, Hearthstone, and so many other pc titles ported to mobile that are financial successes that make their pc counterparts look like failed titles with the cash they rake in. Call of dooty has raked in over 500,000,000 so far for activision, and hearthstone over 600,000,000 for blizzard so far.

Call of duty, fortnite and hearthstone don’t have the complexity that wow does. Hearthstone started out as a physical turn-based TCG, which made it prime for becoming a mobile game. Wow? not so much. WC3? Nah. So Blizzard is designing a completely different game. Wow, but on phones, as much as many folks say classic would work, it really wouldn’t.

And remember when blizzard tried to copy a successful game and it blew up so hard in their faces they had to cancel the events and apologise?

Stop trying to make Heroes of the Storm a Thing. It’s not gonna happen.
They had the chance to print money with WC3rf, but they squandered the opportunity with cheap outsourcing and cut corners.

Just saying “But hearthstone!” doesn’t guarantee that whatever they are making is going to be a success. And either way, it will definitely insult the core PC gamer playerbase who feels betrayed and shoved things they don’t want.

I truely hope they go back on this decision to discontinue customisations this expansion… this was the biggest dream crusher for me…

I love customisations, I love feeling individually unique, I hope they see the love we have for this and put effort into making the community happy.

Me too! Every decision I make in regards to character customization for my toons both transmogs and physical appearance is meant to tell a story. That story is the main thing that keeps me invested in Warcraft. Them not giving me more options to flesh out that story makes it harder for me to remain invested.

I could understand it if they were porting WoW to phones but spending the resources on a new game seems kinda crappy when WoW could use those resources.

Not even close. A lack of more customization is very disappointing, yes, but it’s nowhere near the level of the phone thing.

Fell asleep reading the thread lol hit 300 but yeah as a huge fan of Worgen I’m super angry with this announcement like all we got was some fur patterns and some new eye options sick of blizzard always doing this to us Worgen players like we never get any love we still haven’t had a racial update

They can’t, because Kotick needs to buy yet another flashy yacht, so he can show off with a new one every time he goes to that one island… unless the Kotick they found in that one book was another Kotick, or his twin brother, or something… why else do you think he hired someone to hire Ion, and had that same person fire 800 other employees? They don’t hire more staff, they fire more staff… it’s a “small indie company,” when it should be a “small indie studio” or even a “small indie developer”…

Yeah, this is what bugs me when I saw this, too. I feel like even though many people might leave due to this (including me, for FFXIV), it’s going to change nothing at all. Which is a shame. But, as the forums have demonstrated, we won’t be missed. People who only care about raiding/PvP can have their fun, those who were anticipating something else, like our feedback actually being taken into consideration, will move on for the most part.

Some have noticed anecdotal evidence of people playing less. I wouldn’t know, as I haven’t been at all, myself. Of course, even voicing frustration on this matter will get people flooding over to defend this decision because people narrow it down to “oh you’re whining over haircuts” when it’s far more than that.

Even if it was just haircuts, the fanbase has shown that there’s a menagerie of them that they can custom-make themselves, of which look professional, and take maybe a day’s work. Maybe Blizzard should actually hire people for this though, but we all know corp greed wins out. Again.

Only time something will be made to happen is if the raiding playerbase gets miffed enough to stop playing because that’s who they care about the most.

I do LFR raiding since I don’t really have others to play with. Kinda wish I could talk siblings into playing.
Currently the person I’m playing with the most is my niece. We’d been leveling druids but the last couple days we’ve been playing low level characters in Exile’s Reach. That’s fun until she decides it’s time to go wander around or go swimming. She is 4 afterall.

LFR can be fun but there’s not a lot of point when the armor I’m given while questing is better than what the raid gives me so I’ve mainly been doing it for the transmog…a customization.

I’m still surprised the enemies in the maw, who are animated armor, aren’t actual armor sets we can get as transmog…

I’d much rather have longer deeper storylines via questing. You hit endgame and there’s nothing but the same repetitive content, and I’ve done plenty of it.

I keep hoping for more races or classes to mix things up, nope.

I’d love to see a necromancer, but this expansion didn’t have any classes that made sense. REALLY?

For as big a company as it is, I don’t understand why they’re not churning out stuff to excite players. Even diablo 3 had the 15$ necromancer addon. I’d happily pay 15$ for a necromancer class addon for WoW. I could even use gold if I wanted.

There’s tons of customizations, race ideas, and even a few class suggestions that’d really excite players.

The person who posted the 8000+ thread on Reddit had some edits showing the Kultiran with the belly scaled down and dwarven style beards…make it taller and that’d make a fantastic Vrykul. It looked great. I would love to play one.
San’layn? I’d race change my DK. That’s $$. Night Elf Worgen, I’d race change my druid. That’s more $$.

Now you’ve got youtube people thinking we might not even see any content till September…I’m wondering how much there will even be.
If WoW is their big cash cow, why aren’t more resources put forth to get content out faster or if not faster, just more of it?
Customizations and races would be a great way to fill the gaps.

I kept hoping maybe they’d pull a big surprise and drop the Necromancer class on us saying it needed extra time to be finished so wasn’t announced as part of the expansion. Silly me.

I like people pointing at Fallout and Skyrim…some of the most downloaded mods are customizations. Their hair sets are crazy. Tons of options. That’s also the players putting it out though.

I feel somewhat guilty. My sister just got into WoW, and power to her. I’ll still help her when I can. I really will not be playing the game much at all aside from that, though, since my love for it really has died. I adore roleplay, and making character stories. But… it’s time for me to move on. People can scream at me all they want “Oh well it’s dumb to quit/play less over this”.

Is it going to change how I feel about the game, and how I feel they handled it?

No. Not at all. No amount of people flipping out about how anyone here feels and speaking up about it will get us to play the game more. It won’t. And people can say ‘feel free to let the door hit you on the way out’ too. But… many people I’ve come to adore on the forums for their great ideas, or the way they word things, are leaving. Many of those I know in the RP community are leaving. It just… after all that, any desire to play is now dead.

Why bother when I truly hate the story too? Shadowlands has a story that I personally can’t stand on all fronts. Night Fae/Mald maybe I started to enjoy, but not enough to get me even remotely interested in continuing. This whole ‘fighting in the afterlife while scourge rampage and our planet rots’ just doesn’t vibe well with me.

There’s a stupid toy you get for like floor 6 of Twisting Corridors. I have it. It’s stupid/pointless because of the cooldown. No point in it. The toy cooldowns are ridic.

M+ treadmill, But Blizzard adores that part of the community. So.

No new classes. No new races. Horribly boring borrowed powers, again. Nothing remotely perma aside from a few mounts, non-tier-set-transmog, and battlepets.

That’s an oof from me.

And this is what bugs me. Look at the passion of the community. Heck, I’ll even bring up what I’ve done because I’m just so frustrated. I try to avoid bringing up my thread at all costs. But I’ve run the San’layn thing for over 3 years now. And I didn’t expect much to come of it. But they said they look into feedback.

So for them to literally say “No OnE WaS GiViNg FeEdBaCk” was a gut punch to me. I’m like: “So… all of the ideas my community and I contributed, while trying to be as civil as possible, we’re chopped liver? What about the other AR and customization communities that have put so much love, art, and writing into their ideas?”

It told me one thing. Blizzard doesn’t listen to feedback one bit. To hype things up as “ongoing focus” and “give us feedback” just to turn around and say “nah, nothing more for shadowlands”… it is so frustrating. And people can scream all they want “THEY PROMISED NOTHING!” again that won’t change how we feel.

So we’re going to share our frustrations for a while, and then vanish to someplace else that might listen. And even if they do add our ideas several years later, what’s the point? They paraded ‘oh customization!’ this expansion, giving me hope that our ideas would finally have a chance to be implemented. No new classes. No races, no ARs.

Instead? I got horribly ugly (personal opinion, and I don’t care if you’re offended by MY opinion) blood elf jewelry for my blood elf characters I’ll never use, blue eyes I’ll never use, and my male blood elves got even less than that. And, I’m an elf player. Those who play races who got even less? Or the poor Nightborne?

Yikes.

So I figured even though the first part of the customization was extremely lackluster, that’d be fine–they’d look into our feedback and take it seriously. We’d see it at some point in this expansion.

Instead?

“No more customization for shadowlands”.

So, forget it. Just… forget it. I’m tired of being hyped up and let down, and I’m not going to wait 2+ years to see people’s feedback on simple things like beards for trolls or different DK eyes to be added in.
