But if, for example, I convinced a friend of mine to revisit WoW and he finds out that he missed out on getting that Chaos Orc skin because he missed a little window of availability? He’d quit in that very moment.
In fact, I know someone who hasn’t touched Smite for years because they reworked his favourite character, relegating his former appearance to a skin that you had to log in to receive. He was unaware. And can’t play the game anymore because of that constant reminder.
It’s a sad state of affairs. People are sometimes even ignoring the RP in MMORPG and are literally arguing against the RP’s part of WoW… and Blizzard seems fine with ignoring us too.
Anyone know if Genshin Impact is non-P2W like folks claim? I’ve heard some pretty positive things, but I’m wary of the asian mmo market because of p2w grindiness.
I used to play a p2w mmo. Wasn’t fun. I think it was Korean. I like wow for being sorta leveled but this patch and the upcoming one seems very solo unfriendly. If they do end up changing how pvp gear works that may change my opinions though as right now you have to grind rated modes just to be competitive in a casual pvp mode. I suppose other games may be better for me. If wow can time gate content I guess we have options to timegate our subs.
Nah I would not lock things like hairstyles or other customizations behind raid content, that’s a very specific group of people most of which would actually not be the people who care the most about customization. Story quests? Reputation? Sure.
Not everyone wants to raid, though. And not everyone wants to raid on multiple characters.
Personally, I would be just as incentivized to raid by “I can send this to my alt” or “I can give this to a friend/sell it on the AH” as I am by “woot, another night of nothing but anima!”
Explorers and easter egg hunters would probably enjoy hidden hairstyles.
Like the lucid nightmare and fiddler’s mindworm secret mounts, hidden behind a bunch of easter eggs and treasure hunts, so there isnt a gear requirement.
The more I read up about this the more disappointed I become. To think that there’s so many people in the WoW community who took time out of their day (and not much time in many cases) to create fan-made customization options and …nothing. No shout-out from Blizzard to consider doing official customization options based on fan-made works, nor any offer to bring in those fellows talented in making stuff like this to actually -work- alongside the art team to bring out more and more customization… it’s just not happening?
It really begs the question of what the HELL is going on in Blizzard anymore, a company that to my understanding is quite massive now with a HUGE pool of resources in personnel, in money, in talent and computer technology that allows them to make games like WoW possible. And yet somehow they can’t add more eye colors? They can’t -fix- armor in this game so bikini armor looks equally skimpy for all female player characters and fits properly, they can’t -fix- shoulder pieces so they don’t float so high off the shoulders of some player characters anymore, they can’t even give Trial of Style, which happens only twice a bloody year, any further updates? Nothing new? No rewards in the cosmetic department, just …same ol season 4? Huh?
How did it fall down so hard that they can’t even reach out to the community’s best artists to at least keep the ball rolling and get these sorts of things out slowly and surely. Its’ really weird when almost anyone can learn to body-morph and give their characters everything from super huge muscles and huge boobs, to pot bellies and skinny body types, to just …pretty much anything, but Blizzard Entertainment can’t seem to get around to at least making pre-set body type customization options a thing. Every player race in this game looks exactly the same barring the little things we can change; faces, hair, eye color, etc.
Hell tailing on my last post, it’s not that we even want all the possible customization options NOW and in this instance, but to just …not do anything more with customization for the rest of the expansion? Wh-what?
These things take time, right? SURELY things aren’t so bad in Blizzard Entertainment that you guys can’t just slowly roll the ball forward, little updates and hotfixes here and there to gradually add stuff over time? Why the huge delay?
Seriously, when you can’t even get the odd cosmetic updates for armor because, understandably, armor designs can be trickier to get right, it’s one thing and sometimes may take a longer wait, but character customization as a whole …that’s a fundamental part of the game. To just drop the ball and leave it right there in the middle of the road seems like a really, really bad, awful idea. A terrible mistake, surely.
What you said just reminded me how Square-Enix have/had gear-design contests in FFXIV where players design new tier sets and the winner would have theirs implemented in the game:
