No more physical authenticators?

You can use ANY phone app on your PC with

BlueStacks

I use the mobile authenticator for swtor this way.
Eventually I will have to use it on WoW when my physical authenticator dies. I have the 2010 core hound artwork edition.

Speaking of 1998. That’s when I first started playing Blizz games - Diablo 1.
Give me a shout out for “The Sorcerers Tower”!

why was it necessary to necro a thread from over a year ago?

I didn’t look at the dates until you pointed it out but, . . Why was it necessary for you to reply?

Android emulator like bluestacks and a google account maybe?

Never tried it but idk why it wouldnt work.

you can still get the old physical authenticators on amazon
I have a mobile phone but I cannot get the thing to setup!
It just keeps sitting there on the “setting up” screen when i go to set it up

so 50 more bucks for a phone + the cost of having it activated…just for 4 more bag slots.
lol…if i didnt already have a phone, I would NOT get one just for this game.

ugh…when I had more bnets the authenticator was going insane when id log in. I literally had to move WoW accounts from one bnet and have them migrated into another bnet to get it the authenticator to stop driving me nuts.

But… MoBiLe GaMiNg Is ThE fUtUrE! featuring “our beloved IP!”

HONESTLY. FR. I’m what people in the US consider to be a “hardcore socialist democrat” etc etc however you want to put it. I think everyone deserves a bit more help.

But dear F@!#$ING god if you can’t afford a cheap cell phone but you’ve got time to play WoW, god help you. Disabilities and life situations can be brutal and make it hard to find help and to earn money. So, saying “go mow a lawn!” is super outdated. But like, do they not have a single cent of disposable income? Phones are so cheap and so incredibly necessary for many things these days. I couldn’t live without one. You’ve got a PC and wifi, I feel as if a smart phone is the last piece of the puzzle lol.
This whole post may either just be a bait post, or they’re a severely disabled person asking for help-- which is fine, but this is why I’m “socialist” and think people should be able to buy phones even if they’re essentially helpless :worried:

It’s also not my place to ask or push anyone to tell me what their disabilities are. But not being able to have a phone in this age is so sad to me. My poorest of poor friends have smartphones, the ones struggling and living paycheck to paycheck. Usually they need them for work or bills, as the phone’s much cheaper than a pc.

Find an old phone with WiFi capability. You can probably get a used one that a friend has sitting in a drawer. All it needs is to be able to power on and use WiFi. It doesn’t need to be activated on a network. After that just download the Blizzard authenticator. Probably an anti-malware program too. This should cost you ten bucks or less.

Man how do people even find topics this old…

It doesn’t even have to be a phone, it can be a used iPod Touch or iPad which can be had for ~$50 if you know where to look. Heck if you’re fine with Amazon tracking your every move there’s Kindle Fire tablets for $50 brand new which run Android apps well enough. iOS/Android devices are as common as dirt.

You could run something like BlueStacks and emulate android. Perhaps that would let you run a mobile authenticator.

Honestly, though, the system isn’t designed for people without mobile phones at this point. They’re so ubiquitous that there are more than a few things in the world today that you simply don’t get to enjoy.

For good or ill enhanced security is absolutely tied to mobile phones in a lot of ways. No mobile phone, no enhanced security.

Unlink it from your account with Blizzard’s help (you’ll probably need a photo ID that has the same name as your account), and then create a strong password to the tune of “xcY8-9!*n-Ln?0” and don’t ever use it for anything else.

Strongly recommend a cross-platform password manager like 1Password for this. Makes it dead easy to have single use passwords everywhere without making it more difficult to log in.

I think this is really important to know. Some people really do struggle and don’t have it as good as they probably deserve.

Some people really don’t have the $50. “It’s JUsT FiFty DOLLArs” could be their food for the week.

TLDR: being poor sucks.

thanks that’s perfect i’m using it (nobody else use it please, it would be insecure if multiple user share it)

I didn’t have a cell phone for years, from like 2012 till I think 2018 or 2019, I don’t have anyone to text or call so what good does a phone do me?
Then I discovered what some of my female associates post on Snapchat  now I’m the proud owner of a cell phone

I wish they would have a time limit autolock just to stop the recent necroing trend.
