This merely gave me yet one more reason to not return to the game.

There’s the door, no one is going to cling to your hand and beg you not to go if you’re so broken up over a change that was instituted months ago. Threatening or wielding this old song and dance doesn’t get anyone anywhere. I will wish you well wherever your gaming may take you, however.

FFXIV’s minimum game-time purchase is $29.99 for two months, outside of a subscription, now exactly the same as WoW.

What reason is there to change it to a 2 month minimum, when single months were working fine?

Were they ? was the costs of processing (credit card fees, etc.) outweighing the benefits of having that option available when many who used to use that option have now switched to tokens ? As we all have no internal data on why they did it everything is speculation.

The only thing we do know is that the EU had already changed to this system and that retailers have always only had the one option for bulk game time so using Occam’s razor that is why.

Actually, it would seem the changes were made at more or less the same time (across the EU and NA regions, anyway).

For some portion of the player base, but not all of them.
Blizzard players fall into three payment categories.

1. Intermittent players who come and go for periods of time over the life of an xpac. I don’t know what the average play time period is before they take a break from the game again but I would imagine it may well be over 30 days. Blizzard has numbers showing how long the average intermittent player plays during their play period and may have just eliminated a shorter game time payment option that is only being used by an increasingly smaller portion of the player base, particularly if that portion of the base can be serviced by a different payment methods.

2. Subscribed players. Blizzards preferred payment method. Subs service the full range of 1-6 month play period options. For the past year and a half or so, 6 month subs have also been incentivized with a free mount.

3. Game tokens which are only available for one month play periods.

Bottom line, if you are 1000% certain you are only going to play for 30 days or less, Is that you have options 2 and 3 above.

For playing up to 60, 90, or 180 days, you have option 1.

For playing up to 30, 90, or 180 days, you have option 2.
