No mage changes in the PTR? really?

20% damage on [Frostbolt] lol. So it’s going from like 7k to 8.4k damage per cast much wow, very DPS.

Apparently.

Yeah I recently got my arcane mage to 70 after not really playing her since wotlk/cata times. It’s been interesting learning the new one- my DPS practice on dummies has a massive difference depending on how my opener and burn phase management does.

I think the only thing “easy” might be aoe- there are some specific tricks to make it bigger, but just Arcane explosions, barraging, and tempest are pretty good at keeping you competitive.

I think my favorite thing about arcane though is trying to time the Barrage and casting Touch of the Magi before it lands within a second. That one’s fun

I was just thinking this. I mean, i enjoy the mana management and play a slightly harder version but still… Its like 3 buttons and a priority to play decently…

Doing arcane very well is slightly harder, but its no unholy dk…

I constantly fail at this, it’s so dumb but i can’t do it.

Right? It’s like trying to convince people that BM hunter or Fury warrior are complex. Then they come at you with “YEah, WeLL WhaTS thE RotATioN??! HuH??!”

loool

Okay hey, it’s at not BM hunter level… Maybe button-wise but not rotation wise, that’s too offensive, even for the forums…

personally, I think arcane is a fun spec but it lacks room for error or movement. Radiant spark just needs an extra 2-3 second duration for mechanics

I mean it’s not that hard to find the “rotation”. Here’s the opener.

  1. Prepull

  2. Conjure a fresh Conjure Mana Gem. If you have one with less than 3 charges, it’s advised that you delete it beforehand, there’s an addon to make this easy in the addon section.

  3. Cast Arcane Familiar if it’s not already up.

  4. Channel Evocation fully for the Siphon Storm buff.

  5. Rune of Power ~3 seconds before pull.

  6. Cast Arcane Blast ~2 seconds before pull.

  7. Pull

  8. Cast Arcane Orb.

  9. Cast Time Warp twice, we cast this twice because Temporal Warp allows it to stack.

  10. Arcane Missiles until you have 20 stacks of Arcane Harmony.

  11. Spark Phase

  12. Potion, then cast Radiant Spark.

  13. Cast Arcane Blast 3 times.

  14. Arcane Surge.

  15. Apply Nether Tempest.

  16. Touch Phase

  17. Consume your Mana Gem.

  18. Use your trinkets and cast Arcane Barrage and while it is midair apply Touch of the Magi.

  19. In pure single target, with lust, and outside of execute (35%), cast Arcane Blast and queue up a Arcane Barrage to follow and while it is midair cast Touch of the Magi. This is best accomplished with a macro when at close ranges, available in the advanced section below. With more than one target or during execute we skip the Arcane Blast in this step; this is a small optimization.

  20. Arcane Blast with Nether Precision.

  21. Arcane Missiles with Clearcasting.

  22. During execute (35%), try to land Arcane Barrage in the last moment of your Touch of the Magi, outside of execute use Presence of Mind at the very end of your to squeeze in an additional Arcane Blast.

  23. Use Presence of Mind in the last moment of Touch of the Magi and cast Arcane Blast.

  24. Arcane Barrage at the very end of your Arcane Surge buff.

  25. Cast Shifting Power after all your cooldowns are over, make sure Arcane Orb is also on cooldown.

Then you’re probably playing it wrong

On my new max lvl mage- i’ve been training in timewalking since the mechanics don’t really matter but it’s still good practice. When I mistime my evocation prepull it feels bad :(. Like- NO DON’T TAKE A BREAK LETS GO TEAM!

Once your CD’s are off… it’s bad

survival is getting a buff tho.

Holy crap this thread is a runaway. To bring it back to this discussion it is quite obvious that 2 of the mage specs need some balancing to make them competitive.

As I stated earlier I generally don’t care much for spec balancing but as a long time frost mage getting booted from groups due to my spec does not feel good due community perception. Something should be done to bring frost/fire in line with others

idk about pve, but isn’t frost mages in pvp doin well kinda?

If a swirly spawns under you during your RoP+TotM you do literal healer damage since you have to hard cast everything and your damage is almost entirely loaded into burst windows and you have next to no instant casts unlike Fire who’s burst is ENTIRELY instant casts and can utilize the generous size of the RoP if a 3 yd radius circle spawns directly under them.

Use Shimmer or Ice Floes wisely.

Also Idk why you’re comparing it to mage specs when I said it is the most punishing mage spec.

(Also not sure why you chose fire of the two options, considering it’s more punishing than the always-consistent frost)

Last edit, I promise. I figured I’d tell you that both of the most punishing specs in the game are from the same class. That’s Disc and Spriest, with Disc likely being the harder of the two, since Spriest does have ezpz builds that perform pretty poorly but are a lot more forgiving. Granted, you can do the same on Arcane. They’re all just dogwater builds, competitively.

I suggest a PRIEST doesn’t tell a MAGE what to do.

Thanks.

Mage needs a YUGE buff, the biggest, probably the greatest buff the world, has ever seen. And the players? The players are going to pay for it in PvP.

Not even within 12 buttons of being correct, I wish you could know how dumb this comment makes you look lol

I’m playing it wrong because i don’t find it that difficult? Okay then.
