(shh dont tell anyone but june 1st was originally ashes of creation’s launch. then blizz announced tbc launch june 1st and ashes of creation moved their launch date. game companies playing chicken with each other)
Yeah, I heard about that as well, but I think the q2 earnings report is the primary motivator.
maybe it’s just semantics but I wouldn’t really call it the launch of AoC. weren’t they just pushing out an alpha testing phase lol
yeah i think
Just like blizzard lowered the price for character clones, I would not put it past blizzard to move the tbc release date to July 1st…
I theorized that Blizzard would not keep the 35 dollar clone because it seemed ridiculously high. Then they could swoop in and “save the day” by lowering it to a much more respectable number (though to be fair I was assuming at the 20 dollar value - we got 15 instead, even better). This way they seemed like they were listening to the playerbase and as if they had changed their mind when, in reality, my theory was they had this planned all along. The added benefit of this plan is then people who were mad about the clones not being free would then be more likely to think “at least they made them cheaper” and be less agitated in general and more accepting…
In the same way I could totally see blizzard “swooping in to save the day” and moving the release of TBC to July first to “extend the pre-patch allowing Belves and blueberries more time to level up.” - This would be a horrible decision in my opinion but I would not put it past them. This movement would also be a direct complication for a competing game company - whether intended (ahem)… Or “not intended.”
#JustSaying
(kermet the frog meme - that’s none of my business… Too lazy to go find it for myself and use it lol)
Need for reporting quarterly business results says ‘no, the release is staying in this quarter’
The boosts are available starting from 5/18… that’s this quarter… Transfers will most likely be available within this quarter again as well… I know there are some who will wait until launch day to activate a sub or buy a boost… but I would posit that most will do so in advance… In this quarter.
Revenue recognition rules limit what can be recorded in the current quarter. The release needs to happen in this quarter.
Don’t you guys have cell phones!?
If Blizzard wanted your opinion, they would tell you what it should be.
that’s just your biased opinion- just like me saying there’s no reason NOT to release at least one “F R E S H”. just like the OP stated, a clean, even slate that levels the playing field for both sides. sure it’s a pain to lvl up a new toon, but honestly that’s the nostalgia about playing classics- the experience all over again.
You think you do, BUT YOU DONT!!!
Translation: “I don’t have a reasonable answer.”
A biased opinion would not have had objective fact behind it. I’ve explained why new realms are unnecessary and why they most likely aren’t going to do it. It’s not, “I don’t want that.” It’s, “this isn’t good for the game because of the impact it’ll have on the rest of the realms.” I wish Blizzard would just respond and just say “NO”, then maybe this rotten topic with numerous duplicate threads would go away, or at the very least confine to 1 thread.
It was an alpha testing phase with the removal of the NDA. It doesn’t really hurt them to move it back a little.
the impact on the rest of the realms? irrelevant because each server is its own base, economy, etc. and yes, it’s still a biased opinion, whether it’s based on “objective” facts or more objective opinions. hard facts would be, “86% polled said no, and since blizzard said if 51% says no, then no…”
Additionally, and my primary concern is, if they wait too long then the fresh servers will hardly be given the opportunity to accrue the population they deserve to stand a solid chance at longevity.
This is what I’m expecting to happen. Release some fresh servers just so they can say they did and trumpet themselves the good guys, all the while intentionally releasing them so late that they stand no chance of being successful so they can say “I told you so”.
