I don’t want a beta. Back in 2002/2004 I burned out TWICE during alpha friends and family and beta. TWICE.
Literally played like crazy for months. Burned out for months. And then did it again… and then the actual game released.
Everyone will eventually burn out, and rest for awhile.
A beta would cost Bliz $ millions.
Say the average time played before burnout is 14 months. A 2 month beta would cut into those 14 months… Bliz would gain some testing insight but at the cost of $15 per month x total subscribers. Would be millions that Bobby Kotick and stock holders would rather spend on their boats instead.
Also… no one ever mentions… we know the pservers stole Blizzard’s IP… well $50 bucks says Bliz stole the pservers IP back.
Bliz has the Nost Core and then some. Guarantee it. They have compared pserver data tables to what they are about to release in Classic.
I recently heard some content creators say they want a beta, so they could compare things like how Blizzard implements “Spell Batching” and how it’s supposed to work… going on about how nuanced it is.
Seriously? You are going to beta test Spell Batching nuances and compare it to how you remember Spell Batching 14 years ago? When you were what? 13 years old?
That’s such BS. They’re going to compare Blizard’s Spell Batching to what they’re used to on their pservers.
No Beta please. We don’t need one. What little bugs are there, if any… big deal. We’ll be fine.
And release the game already. You’ve had more than enough time.
The thing about a beta is that it can give a lot of feedback.
It also allows people to get all that’s needed to start doing addons for release.
At the same time, it creates publicity, hype and puts classic on the spotlight again.
Any little problem like the lamp thing they showed on the pannel is easier to see if they make a beta.
On top of this, they also get a chance to test servers, how to apply sharding if the do, etc.
They’re right in their claim that it adds depth to the PvP, but their desires to feed their own selfish bottom line is what drives these requests for “testing”.
I have never seen any “content creator” who did any kind of quality “testing”, typically all they do is encounter a bug and then proceed to complain without actually testing how that bug might function.
Moreover this BETA idea they have is really bad for Blizzard and Classic WoW because it’s giving private servers valuable information that they presently do not have.
There’s a lot to be learned from Classic that we have all forgotten, why give the private servers this valuable information so that they can compete better?
Yes to having a beta. Also it would be great if the people who obviously think of it as a free trial or whatever, and not a quality test, didn’t get invites.
Not that I think that would actually happen. But still, better to find the bugs (and there will be bugs) before release. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if this gets a soft release, since that’s all the rage these days.
I vote open, limited beta that limits to level 20 or so, or a mirror of the blizzcon preview. This would run for maybe a month as a promotional period to help get the word out to new and old players alike, and allow for addon creators and players to get prepared in their personal setups rather than fiddling at launch.
No extensive bug testing, no playing significant content
Today is Sunday hence all the “Sunday” threads. I assumed this was one of them.
But if you don’t think blizzard is treating this as just another expansion for business purposes then you are not qualified to continue participating in this discussion.
Of course it’s for business what tf else would it be.
They’re a company.
And if you don’t see how this is nowhere near an expansion, specially in that it’s a finished product that just needs tweaks and it’s aimed at a population that would hype up the beta then I don’t know what to tell you.
Stopping replies here as it’s clear you don’t want any sort of real discussion.
