Up until last week I did, but I decided to download Decursive to make curse removal easier. I’ve always been terrible at checking the group for curses.
I use macros
They are handy for cast sequences with announcement
For example, sleep a beast mob, announce it to group, set MOON icon on mob.
Too hard to do that manually with any efficiency.
Or cycle some constantly used HOT/HEAL combos with out feeling like an am playing a piano concerto.
Addons i use:
Atlas/AtlastLoot: Very handy for helping determine where to go and who to kill to try to gear a given person
Bagnon: Simplifies the bags is all, better use of screen space
Zperl Frames: Just more efficient display of data in the UI, and can arrange data on the screen to better utilize the space.
Bartender: Again, mostly just better utilizing the screen space/layout
to a more logical arrangement and clearing up clutter.
Recount: Good for analyzing what you are doing, see what is working and what is not and such.
Now that said, i also play with 0 addons, as a lot of times i play from a very old laptop and addons slow the game down too much.
Also play without sound but i dont recommend that unless you also
have an old laptop that struggles to hold 20fps.
And i can play fine without the addons, though i tend to stay out of instances with it because no one should die simply because i couldnt heal you in time due to playing on a potato.
Twitch installs the addons for you, they have most of the classic compatible addons
Come on man, it’s not hard to install addons and drag’em to a folder, neither is it to copy and paste a macro and put it on your bar… I just opt not to

I used none in vanilla, and I used none this time around either.
I actually truly enjoyed ranking up over the others that used add-ons like ‘oh it IS the spoon’ attitude. God I love killing those fools.
This time around I’m goin as a hunter, if I make it to 60 before phase 2 releases, if not, new game on the horizon, lol. I’ve already cancelled there is no way I’m making 60, but yeah, no add-ons ever, and no macros (i have no issue with macros, just havent found the need yet).

Why? I don’t actually need macros for anything. I’m not using any add-ons, either. I use the game as a timesink, nothing more.
I used add-ons in Cata, like DBM, because I was forced to raid heal, but once I pulled rank to bail on raiding, I got rid of them.

thats how we played in 04 on launch day go to one area get all the quest knock them out then explore the rest of the area and see if there is anything else before you move on.
So you can be better.
I recommend BigDebuffs to see curses that can be removed if you want a lighter hand than Decursive.
I strongly recommend Adibags over Bagnon.
I think I downloaded no less than 10 addons out of the gate and eventually five more.
Zero of it makes it easier against others, but makes life, tanking, inventory, vendoring, healing, group support and sanity better for me

To be fair again, people on this forum are not necessarily representative of the general WoW playerbase, especially the true casuals of whom there are many.
I played with my RL friends of casuals back in vanilla, about 10-12 of us.
I was the only one who ever came to this forum. I was also the only one to know there was a tab called Macros somewhere, or that add-ons were even a thing.

But I’m fine where I am.
I’m not riffing on people for using them, I’m just saying I see no need for me to use them. I don’t use add ons or macros in any game, tbh.
A non-wow example: I also play WoT and WoWS, and sit at about 54-55% winrate in both games, No mods, add ons, no clan, solo play. I could clan up and play as a division, and boost my WR a couple %, add some custom sights, etc, squeeze out another percent, but… why? 55% WR puts me way above most players - 60+ % would be godlike stats. So, if I’m happy being better than most playing bare of add ons, why complicate things for a smidge more rating?
I’ve said before - I don’t raid. Raids bore me. Raids would be the only thing I’d need mods to do, so, not doing them means mods are a waste of my time.

Boring playstyle. To each their own.
That does necessitate having a twitch account, though. I like installing addons by downloading them and putting them in the right folder myself. Not interested in a website automagically moving things around in my filesystem.
You can manual install as well, if you prefer, and do not need a twitch account.
Most of the mods, i keep tabs on the developers github and do pulls from there as you can pick up incremental fixes long before they go to twitch, plus i can provide the dev with testing and feedback info

If i had to play “raw” as you call it- i would never play this game because it would be total poop.
I did for the first couple days or so… which is about how long I played vanilla without Add ons.
Can’t be the only way since im playing it and doing pretty well : )
