I tried for the first 15 levels, but then caved in. It’s nice, but I found that I enjoy the extra info addons give. I do preserve vanilla UI though, not a fan of UI overhauls.
Healing without mouseover macros is tough as well, so I have those.

Yea but how are you going to pay attention to the TV when all your attention is on the spoon.
Jokes aside you’re just handicapping yourself. That’s all.
I know right? Eating soup is serious business, gotta have all that assistance hahahaha
You might be right, maybe im not playing the most optimal way… But i’m still doing better than most and enjoying the game to its fullest : )
the macros and addons ARE the spoon.
Sure you keep telling yourself that
I played vanilla in 2006 with no addons and while it was fun, it’s 2019 and I have play to compete in raids. I use questie, spy, auctioneer, and another add-on that tells you how much a item is worth to sell.
I don’t use add-ons or macros. Not for any specific reason, I’m just not the most tech-minded guy. I did actually try to make a few macros recently but I couldn’t get them to work.
Macros are part of the game, but I prefer not to use add-ons.
I personally won’t use “addons”. I remember my son made a character and used some questing addon that directed you on which quests to do which to skip and actually gave you visible pathing. I laughed my @ss off told him he didn’t want to play WOW, he wanted a Korean MMO.
I don’t use any at the moment.
Maybe at 60 I’ll look into some.
As a druid, shapeshifting and doing other things that also need to happen (like buffs) is not fun without macros. More like awkward and inconvenient.
I actaully play a 60 druid tank, but I don’t know what macros I need. The only one I use is to shift cat to cat for feral DPS.
Not playing with addons I get, but no macros? That are part of the original UI?
That’s just… Odd.
I find a lot of these “pure” views of wow are more frequently heard from players who weren’t heavily into the game pre-launch. Despite much hubris on the forums, first wave wow players were older and more sophisticated gamers than how the general public conceives of “gamers” today. We were also much more tech savvy than the average consumer.
Things were much more collaborative between the players and Blizzard rather than this ever-present groupthink that Blizzard is out to get us that seems to pervade the forums.
All that is to say, add-ons were developed alongside WoW and weren’t viewed as being “against” or “instead of” the base game. They were supplemental and, arguably, necessary. Blizzard developers recognized the talent pool in their customer base and leveraged it to “off-load” some of the things they didn’t have the resources to fully develop themselves. Some of the most popular add-ons were eventually incorporated into the game’s code.
Some players are laboring under a #nochanges mantra that would preclude them from using a threat meter, a frame add-on, or a quest helper on the basis that they’re either in standard wow currently or somehow break the spirit of wow. That viewpoint fails to recognize, however, that those add-ons were developed and used before and into the public launch of the game so it’s more #changes to adhere to that strict of an interpretation and refuse to use what we were using back in vanilla from day 0.
Press Alt-Z to play game raw. Otherwise, you ARE using add-ons.
I used to. Until I found a way to download Addons without having to have a Twitch account. Thanks to a Forum friend, whom I won’t name, unless they want to reveal themselves
I can understand not wanting to use any addons. I wouldn’t recommend it, but I can understand it.
But no macros? The game includes macro functionality, it doesn’t require any additional software, it’s part of the base game.
I use macros for all kinds of things.
Have an ability that you want to use first when you dismount? Create a macro that uses /dismount and you will be able to dismount when triggering the spell.
I use a ‘castseqence’ macro for abilities that I will almost always use in the same order at the same time (applying buffs, for example).
Want to sell something in trade chat or LFG/LFM? Why type the whole message out each time? Just use a chat macro with /2 /4 in front and hit one button to advertise your thing? It’s a real time-saver…
I don’t think you need to be a purist, I think maybe you might be a little scared of the complexity or technicality of copying some files into your game directory. Ok, yeah if you’re incapable of extracting something from a .zip file and copying it to the appropriate directory in the game install, then yeah maybe addons aren’t for you.
I have a macro that…
Also going direcly into prowl or travel form regardless of what form I am in.
And of course my cat form opener, ravage, is macro’d to Tiger’s Fury.
I`m not advocating for a change or anything, and i’m certainly not against the use of macros and addons
It’s just the way i play and with the very common use of both features i was wondering what is other people’s playstyle
Thank you friend
