Only the males had their shoulder size changed. I don’t think they did anything to the females aside from the idle animation fix.
Hmm I didn’t notice anything with the idle animation. I’ll have to pay more attention to it next time I login. I really wish they’d scale down the female shoulders though. Some of them look absolutely ridiculous and terrible lol. Especially the cloth gear. Like it’s cloth, why are these shoulders looking like football pads???
I don’t think the size is as much the problem with shoulders as their tendency to be horrendously wide set, angled back at sharp angles, or straight up floating 4 inches off the shoulder area.
Hey, hey, HEY! Don’t take away my huge shoulder pads! I’ve played a Blood Elf for so long, please let me relish in my shoulder mountains. I can see details now!
That’s what orcs are for!! xD
Lol just kidding. But I do agree with Dratha. I think positioning is the biggest issue.
Bump because the nightborne are an awesome race and they deserve to have awesome player models. It takes two seconds on the race customization screen to see that these models are sorely lacking in quality.
Bump in order to get Blizzard to notice this.
I’m looking to roll a fresh Rogue, and Nightborne is again at the top of my short list.
I looked at armor sets on LIVE for both male and female. I’d previously checked out the female attack animations and found them agreeable. The movement animations are the same as my priest, so I know what to expect - and I know that some improvements are up on the PTR.
Since I was 50/50 on how they looked, I decided to take the male to Org and beat on a training dummy for a while. Attack animations are also 50/50 for me. The only complaint I have about the male model is that I seriously dislike the Night Elf “en garde” animation.
On the current LIVE version, I just do not see the validity of statements which indicate that the character models are “anorexic” or “out or proportion” or that they “skip leg day”.
What I CAN see is that the shoulder scaling gives them a relatively top heavy appearance. Personally speaking, I’m indifferent on it aside from some placement and scaling issues - especially on the female model.
We have to be honest with what we’re looking for here.
I would love to see more customization options, and hopefully there will be some that really appeal to a broader audience on an individual level while still being fundamentally Nightborne.
I’d love to see the “tattoos” be a touch more prominent - not so much that they’re obnoxious, but enough to show off the rather unique art work. I see it not so much as a “tattoo” but rather like the lingering traces of the magical essences that are a massive part of the racial story line.
How the model is proportioned is an artistic decision though. I don’t think it is unreasonable to ask for Quality of Life fixes (animations, shoulder scaling and positioning, etc), but it seems like some of you are asking for changes to the player model that go well beyond the scope of “well the faces don’t really look like the faces of the Nightborne in Suramar” - which is true, and is somewhat of a QOL issue.
As a race, the Nightborne have been in seclusion for 10,000 years. I don’t recall seeing a single “well built” Nightborne NPC in the entire zone.
It kind of reminds me of the cinematic with Saurfang and the young troll at the start of BFA. Saurfang is huge, even for an Orc. Countless battles, countless enemies - every day is leg day for Saurfang. The troll? First battle. Kinda noodly, even for a troll.
The Nightborne race is just kinda noodly in general. It is part of the race. If you want to play as a self propelled brick outhouse then roll Tauren, Orc or apparently a Kul Tiran Human.
Anyway, I checked the PTR this morning as part of my decision making process. I found no OBVIOUS differences from when I looked at the female models a week or two ago.
I also, interestingly, did not notice any OBVIOUS differences between LIVE and PTR for the male models. The armor looks the same across several sets of rogue gear. I’m not sure if they’ve reverted a change from a previous version, or if they’ve hotfixed the male models on live. Or perhaps the changes aren’t applicable to leather. I don’t know.
What I will say, as someone with some hours behind a female Nightborne but no time behind a male Nightborne, is that male Nightborne on LIVE are significantly more polished than females.
I only ran from the emissary area of Org to the training dummies in the back, but the difference was blatantly obvious. Running is smooth, jumping is smooth, landing is smooth. Aside from the lack of customization and some potential disagreements about art direction, I don’t really see how people are having a fit about male models being unfinished let alone unplayable.
Yeah, they copied a lot from the Night Elves. Got it, don’t really like it either. Yeah, the customization is lacking. Got it, wish there were more options as well.
Uh, roll a female. Jump while running. The landing looks like a dumpster rolling down a flight of stairs. Get some of the better mog sets. You’ll be looking at the bottom of the shoulders floating in mid air from the front, and they’ll be nearly touching in the back. Watch them stand around a while and twitch as they go through idle animations. Then come on back and tell me how broken your male models are again.
And if the other races are worse, which I have absolutely zero experience with, then… wow. Voids should be a slight retouch of a very functional Blood Elf model, and the rest should be virtually identical to their “classic” counterparts.
If the Kul Tirans and Zandalar are garbage then all hope is lost.
Anyway, again, be objective. If something (like shoulder scaling and placement) is ACTUALLY broken, then lets talk about it. If we want to argue about artistic direction then maybe that isn’t a “fix” so much as a personal preference.
Would like more customization aswell but it’s not killer for me. Only thing I hate is the racial that does piss poor damage to be fair. I have only Use it when I’m oom, it’s use case is nonexistent.
If only it was as strong as the aoe racial from the lightforged drenai
It will takes years for Nightborne to get more options honestly to help us look more like npc
Something was not quite right.
I hope some Nightborne updates are coming down the line. All of the faces just strike me as far too old looking. Also, I don’t know why their hair colors are so limited. The Highborne Empire was an empire of Kaldorei, with Highborne being a caste more than a race. While being under a dome for 10,000 years, exposed to the Nightwell will have caused some changes, I don’t see why we don’t have more hair color options derived from those Night Elves have.
I suppose Blizzard could be wary of Nightborne looking too much like Night Elves, but at this point I don’t think that should really matter. I think it’s far more important that a race have ample customization options to flesh it out, rather than avoid infringing upon another faction’s race.
Right, and we’re just going to pretend that there isn’t magic or even good old fashion dye in the World of Warcraft. You should be able to hit up a barber and sort that hair right out. Doesn’t have to be the full spectrum or anything, but a few more colors would certainly be nice and WELL within reason.
They’ve been under a dome for 10,000 years… oh, right… they probably exiled anyone who dyed their hair bright pink. Nice people.
Exactly my thoughts. At least offer muted/pastel versions of certain colors we see with Night Elves. That would make a great deal of sense in my opinion. We haven’t seen anything to indicate the Night Elves’ current hair colors are a result of 10,000 years of living or anything.
Personally I wouldn’t mind seeing Black either. I think a Nightborne with Black Hair would look pretty great.
You know… A stealth detect racial would have actually been genius.
Please give the Nightborne males a face that doesn’t make them look like raisins.
Could have been like the old human racial.
- [Perception] Dramatically increases [stealth] detection for 20 seconds. 3 min cooldown.
My biggest issue is the complete lack of “Nightborne” style weapons. So we join the Horde and loose access to all the weapons we used to fight free of oppression? Makes no sense. Would also like to see more armor options outside of the Heritage Armor. I have zero interest in replaying an entire new alt just to get armor which should have been available after completing the unlock quests. Probably the worse choice they ever made with allied races IMHO.
I feel like I need to be a part of this thread. Maybe one day, we won’t look like our faces were partially chiseled from stone.
All heritage armor should come with heritage weapons. But I guess that’s too much effort.
