My favorite part is how Delaryn abandoned the Night Elves for no reason over their many protests, and now Blizzard is writing it as the Night Elves abandoning Delaryn…
Exactly! They are definitely being humanized. I am picturing a restored throne room, lined with undead guardsman with intact, silken banners of Lordaeron billowing in the gentle breeze. And their docile, peaceful queen of light ruling them as she would any regular body of people. They can resume their lives, and don’t have to live in a sewer surrounded by plague. Nothing was stopping them from reclaiming their identity except obsession with vengeance against the Lich King, and then an evil leader intent on using them to perfect the plague.
Since Calia and Proudmoore are friends of the Alliance, they will be reunited with their families. I suspect the evil forsaken will prob wallow off after the false queen.
This is their usual method of getting night elves to leave the Alliance and join with Horde. But in this instance, this is the first writing they have done that made sense. If they stick to the narrative they put out before, that the NE willingly joined their murderers and helped murder more NE because they were mad at Elune, they do not have a place among the NE. I did see a line about them chalking it all up to being filled with rage and anger and not knowing what they were doing, but meh. They can keep those elves.
We are about to have cleansed undead who live in castles and houses again. I’m thrilled.
When you really think about it, the perfect mirror to light-dead is something we already have–void elves.
A palette swap of the other factions most popular race, possessing its history, model and silhouette, but with color and cosmetics that change its theme completely.
It would have never been possible to give the forsaken an update without also giving them those things from humans, since forsaken were humans anyway. By reverse-engineering it, it becomes plain as day.
On topic, I can’t help but be curious exactly what happens with the forsaken now. I wonder if Sylvanas’ loyalists will move or just put up with it.
Yep! And they won’t be burning trees anymore, they will be planting them. Nothing but beautiful greenery all around what was the sewers of undercity. The zone will be redone like the plaguelands. I’m calling it now.
Welcome to the new Alliance!
They told Christie she couldnt kill off Sylvanus. So she said “sure”, and went about her business replacing the entire character of the Forsaken by purifying them. You go girl! Excellent job.
The plague lands were the vilest places in Azeroth, but they were cleansed. We don’t know how powerful Calia is yet. The Lady of Light will probably be able to undo blight.
Essentially, what drew Forsaken to the “Dark Lady” was the ability to do evil, be evil, and burn things.
Now they have to put up with a female version of Anduin who is about peace and healing. And this not only ruins the edge lord enjoyment of being undead, it also opens up possibilities for better zones, better writing, and protects other races from people who enjoy burning and torturing. The edgelord fantasy that was Forsaken has received a kiss of death.
The night elves lost their culture, and so have the Forsaken. But the culture that is going to be rebuilt with Calia Menethil will be 1000% more interesting than anything the Forsaken have done so far in BFA.
At first I thought Calia in Before the Storm was wasted potential and I dreaded the idea of “Lightforged Undead” in the Alliance. But now that I hear Calia is leaning more towards leading the Forsaken and re-establishing Lordearon, the more I like it!
So punishment for genocide is killing the Forsaken with kindness, love, and light. I couldn’t think of a greater sentence. Actually, now that I think about it, the Forsaken ditching shriveled up old Sylvanas for hot mama Calia makes me think they’re getting off easy…
Joking and schadenfreude aside, I’m actually really intrigued of the idea that the Forsaken might use Calia’s return as turning a new leaf. With Sylvanas buggering off to destroy all life, the Forsaken can actually rebuild their past lives.
For now at least. If I can be an undead light touched paladin I would race change in a heart beat!
I am 100% serious when I say I am excited to play the game again. The current writing with the Forsaken as evil overlords ruined the game in ways I have never seen before. This is actually a step in the right direction. There will probably be physical changes in game as well as a shift in the narrative that will allow for real character growth. This is actually the coolest thing Blizzard has done in years.
Now everyone gets what they want: the Forsaken who want to be edgelords are already talking about race changing. Sylvanus doesn’t have to die, but at the same time the Forsaken will cease to exist as we know them. It may not be direct vengeance for NE, but its pretty sweet. I would rather see the Forsaken turned to actual goody two shoes than have anyone make Tyrande into a villain, as some of the other spoilers have suggested.
