I would put it to you that you have to care, because reaching those people with the storytelling and presenting information in a way that they understand it means two things.
Average satisfaction will increase, the story will be seen as better, that rehabilitates the franchise.
You cut down on cognitive dissonance among the people who are actually aware of the lore - which in turn increases their satisfaction.
Again, this is why the presentation matters, and why things like “show don’t tell” are narrative truisms.
Not really - people in various communities have vocalized the issue. It’s not just here. It’s in GD, it’s in Youtube comments, it’s on reddit, the same commentary is in the EU, it’s everywhere.
I don’t know where the death threats are coming from regarding the Twitter stuff. I generally don’t pay attention to Twitter, and when I do I find that I regret it.
That being said, I don’t think that those comments are coming from story forum regulars.
I mean, it’s hard to say - you have lore nerds who approach the subject dispassionately, and laypeople who really identify with the faction, and happen to be the sort of person who would level such threats. I’m not sure with the information that we have that we can make definitive conclusions on correlations.
