I recall narration from the Primus that Elune and Winterqueen work together for the cycle of death and rebirth.
Since Wild Gods regenerated in the Emerald Dream and we also learned they also go to Ardeweald I just connected the dots that its a team effort thing as the Primus explained.
Maybe its a new shadowlands thing, I didn’t know they completely retconned this to make Shadowlands more important. Well then I would change this:
to
Btw I tried playing wow retail again after hearing about the XP boost. Ugh it still makes feel disgusted to play through it. Still stuck in the Bastion intro zone trying to recharge the robots.
No one said they couldn’t be evil. The point is that it’s in poor taste to villainize Night Elves who abandoned Elune after Teldrassil and force us to kill them.
You just have a hatred for Night Elves that is almost creepy.
Every other religion in WoW, it is conceivable that there are limitations to the powers of the deities because those deities tend to just be really old spirits that are not supremely powerful but are powerful enough. Elemental spirits and animal spirits or just really old and powerful spirits of people who used to live long ago. And for the Light, it is an elemental power. It’s not really a deity and is more like a worship of an energy source.
Like it’s not surprising that Rezan just straight up got merked. He’s just a really old t-rex spirit. There are limits to his powers but they can be tangibly felt.
I don’t think Elune cares about rules. What we have established is that she broke away from the First One’s order. She cares about mortals to some degree, other eternal ones do not. The Winter Queen considered Elune a traitor because she turned her back on the First One’s plans.
All of which get merked by some green boyes who do not have any such blessings. Also, which wild gods has she resurrected? I have no idea who you’re referring to here, because it seems like the cycle of death and rebirth is built into wild gods with or without Elune’s intervention.
Putting people to sleep so they don’t die in pain is intervening directly. We’ve established she has the power to put people to sleep. She didn’t put enemies to sleep, she put her own followers to sleep. So why would that be?
Yeah so I don’t really understand why you’re comparing the two. Light worship is not the same as Elune worship. Elune is an actual being that exists in the cosmos somewhere. The Light is an elemental force. And the other beings like Loa and Wild Gods have conceivable limitations that Elune isn’t established to have.
So which Elune exists in WoW? The one who we saw in SL or the one you want to exist?
I never said anything about forcefields. She wouldn’t have needed to put forcefields up. Literally just put the demolisher pilots to sleep, put the shamans to sleep so they can’t summon elementals to stoke the fire. I dunno, do literally anything except put your own followers to sleep so they don’t die in pain, maybe just prevent them from dying? Then again we’ve established that such things do not matter to Elune.
It’s literally what happened. She would have had to have heard the Winter Queen’s plea sometime after the death of Argus. So when the genocide started up she was like, well, I’ll send these souls over to Ardenweald. Which, by the way, is not her damn job. So this paints a picture of a deity that just does not actually care enough about the affairs of mortals. Enough to mate with a stag but not much outside of that.
I’m honestly waiting for you to go on a multi-reply post about how actually the Night elves are super powerful and not a joke despite spending literal years complaining about that being what Blizzard has written for the Night elves. I don’t get where this Elune apologia is coming from.
She literally put people to sleep. That is intervening directly. Why put her followers to sleep at all? They lost the fight fair and square, let em feel the burn, right? Or if she actually did care about their suffering, she would’ve maybe done something to prevent it.
Elementals are worshiped as deities and the elementals are the ones who helped Teldrassil go up. So again windy boyes > Elune. Because windy boyes actually helped the Horde while Elune did next to nothing.
Also, I’m not even sure if that’s true, because if I remember correctly she stopped a Night elf messenger from dying in Wolfheart.
Ultimately, she views mortal life as expendable, because she has the perspective of a god. She knows the grand designs of the first ones and the shadowlands. The deaths of her followers, of which she has seen many throughout the cosmos on various different planets, are ultimately inconsequential to her. That actually does make sense for a god.
What I’m saying is that there isn’t any point in worshiping her over something like the Light or Elementals. Both of which get results whereas Elune worship really only saw them through conquering the Trolls, who were already bickering and infighting.
Again whether they were Merked by some green boys or not it was the responsibility of the NEs and Alliance to protect themselves. Elune grants power to her priestesses, the druids and plays an important role in their society. She was never their guardian dieity tasked to protect them from green boys or red boys.
Not really, its a soft touch intervention and only on her own believers. What says she has the power or even the authority to put the entire Horde army to sleep? Or demons? Or anything else? Those Night Elves were doomed to die anyway, so just spared them an agonizing death.
Because maybe she can’t. And never has for anything hostile. Again if divine intervention that would auto-win any conflict with divine intervention was an issue the Night Elves would have voiced it since War of the Ancients.
No divine being can directly impact things in the mortal realm. They always need some sort avatar or specific agents. The Light gods in Light Lands don’t come down personally. They send agents like the Naaru to do their bidding and even the Naruu are limited in what they can do.
You are putting expectations on Elune that should not exist and have never existed until BFA when Blizzard needed to blame literally anyone they could except Sylvanas or the Horde for their evil acts.
The one that actually exists and cannot act like a guardian diety that protects and saves all her worshipers.
A) She probably could not.
B) She has never any positive or negative actions on non-believers. Your request has no basis.
Elune was never a god that could descend from the heavens and smite the Night Elf enemies like the Abrahamic god. She has never, as far as I know and read, EVER been able to cast curses, spells, natural disasters or a simple sleep spell on anyone EXCEPT her believers.
Night Elves believe in her? They got spared from pain.
Tyrande requests power? She gives it to her.
Tyrande needs to heal people? She gives her the power to do so.
Tyrande needs to avenge her people? She gives her the Night Warrior power.
She gives power to her children so they can do what they want to do.
But she has never been a guardian deity and frankly she shouldn’t… you think Horde players complain now? What would happen if Elune, a literal god would come down from the heavens and make their entire army fall asleep? Or made to do anything? That just sucks narratively.
This is an idiotic storyline that has no basis. Night Elves have gone through worse and Elune has been less helpful than she was in BFA. No problem from the Night Elves. If they wanted to sell this Elune abandonned the NEs storyline they should have made her priestesses lose their powers. Have her grace completely absent, THAT would be unprecedented and that would work in the story.
What you are asking for destroys old lore, makes characters behave contrary to how they behaved before, make grossly destructive expectations from characters normal all in the effort of distract from the actual things that are problematic in the story.
Trust me when I say having the entire NE race expectant that Elune is always there to solve their problems is a really bad idea.
“I would say those two figures have a lot to – I don’t know if ‘resolve’ is the right word, because can you ever resolve something that happens on the scale of an entire civilization nearly being wiped out? There is going to be some very heavy interaction between those characters, and that is pivotal to the final conclusion of how ‘Eternity’s End’ and the Shadowlands saga wraps up.”
I’m not having this discussion with you because it’s really tiresome going line by line through every single post for hours on end so I only have two things to pick out.
Then she’s useless. Air elementals can blow fire around and make an island-sized tree go up in flames. Elune can’t even put some people to sleep who are not her followers.
Maybe she should just stop the tiny bit of civilization ending from a mundane threat that isn’t the Legion. If the elements can help end a civilization, I think Elune can help it not end. Unless of course she’s more useless than some air elementals.
Regardless. There will still be primalists in DF who think Elune is whack. And they’re 100% in the right.
I have already explained to you why you are wrong and why you are making false comparisons. But somehow you don’t like reading my essay after throwing yours at me
I can’t keep repeating the same explanations while you keep reverting to an idiotic argument about elementals.
For the final time.
Elune was never and has never been tasked to act as guardian diety. That is literally not her job.
Her job is to give power to her believers and let them do what they will. If anyone failed it was the Night Elves themselves.
If in wow gods were constantly intervening to solve problems it would be an MMO about gods rather than fantasy races.
I mean obviously let us blame literally anyone except the Horde and Sylvanas.
You are basically advocating for Sira’s internal logic.
I mean…the blood elves also lost 90% of their race to the scourge, but have fielded armies since than and participated in every major confrontation WoW had.
Population numbers mean little. The Night elves will have Too few left until blizzard needs them to field a army again down the road
Still baffled that there were THAT MANY night elf civies on a 20 year old tree, even assuming most of the innocent bystanders from Darkshore and Ashenvale were shuttled that way. But the whole arch was wangst heavy. Pathos peeping.
A character’s opinion, yes.
Characters can be and are often wrong.
This character is obscenely wrong.
Again, Night Elves own more land than any race in the entire game. And Humans exist.
