Sounds like bad writing.
It’s always been clear that Night Elves won’t go on about having kids like everyone else because of a long lifespan. Balance is hard to keep with a constantly increasing population.
Jaina at least can be reasoned with and talked off the ledge. Tyrande’s primary defining character trait is throwing short-sighted tantrums and generating massive diplomatic screw-ups.

When kids don’t get out of their diaper and nightly crying phase until they’re 40 years old, it takes a hell of a commitment to choose to become a parent.
There’s kind of a sad irony in that the that the one moment in the series where she is actually shown being extremely diplomatic, also backfires on her causing a crisis for the night elves.
Why do all of WoW’s children look like they are out there worshiping old gods. Well not gnoll children, there are so cute.
No, they’re not too old and I think older people can make for better parents. I really wish they did, even just one bc one kid is ez clap.
If you love someone I can’t imagine not wanting a piece of them and you combined and it’s such a neat time of life. Plus it’s fun when a kiddo gets the annoying traits of your s/o and your s/o has to deal with a mini me. Yeah, see how do you like your crap being thrown back at you? 
I really don’t think they have a romance anymore. Their duties always pull them apart.
