Next Hero Class: Dragonsworn? (or: Why Bards, Necromancers and Tinkers Don't Work)

I don’t quite accept your premise, but let’s give it the benefit of the doubt. My greater issue is That Necromancers have never been a part of WarCraft lore. I can name at least a dozen representatives of each of those other classes - even Monk has its share of representatives pre-MoP.

How many Necromancers can you name?

No it’s not. Engineering gives nothing like Skagit does.

I’ve been playing since 2005, and I’ve pretty much only ever healed. I took a break from it when DKs came out, and I tanked for a bit, but support roles are my preferred role (probably why I work in healthcare).

I would love if they’d give us a class that works as a support class, that’s not just standard healing. A buff class (kind of like Chanter from Aion).

Let me do damage (somewhere between what a DPS could put out and what a healer could put out). But let me have buffs for the part that I’m weaving in and out during encounters. For example,

Bardic Inspiration: All allies within 40 yards gain 15% additional haste for the next 13 seconds. 1 minute cool down.
Glyph of Warding: Allies within 40 yards receive 20% reduced damage for the next 8 seconds. 1 minute cool down.
Blade Dancing: Allies melee attack’s produce an additional attack dealing X amount AP for next 15 seconds. 1 minute cool down.
Light as a Feather: Allies are freed of any movement restrictions and cannot be slowed for the next 8 seconds. 1 minute cool down.
Sanctuary: Allies within 20 yards heal for X amount of SP over 8 seconds. 45 second cool Down.
Prestidigitation: Removes harmful magical and curse effects from all targets within 35 yards. 1.5 minute cool down.

This is what I want… the ability to kind of help bolster my healer when needed, buff my allies, while also contributing to damage. Make it a ranged Damage Dealer, who can kind of float in the area between melee and ranged to provide the buffs. I would absolutely adore doing this, and surely buffs would help offset the fact that you’d be down one “true damage dealer” in the normal group setup.

I’d imagine they could still do somewhat decent damage. The chanter in Aion was fun to play in group and solo content. I didn’t nuke things as fast as pure damage dealer, but I did better than healers, and had great survivability. Plus, it could just be that buffing the group is one spec? And the other spec is healer or DPS? Idk. I just wanna Buff my allies!:joy:

You kind of missed the boat on that. Shamans and Paladins were support classes. Then Blizzard decided there was no room for that role in their game. I would love a return, too, but it’s just so contrary to their philosophy.

I enjoy the creativity,

but it sounds like a dragon themed, demon hunter.

A lot will depend on the content of the next patch, but i am still more inclined to think the tinker will be the next class, given what we’ve seen from IE’s and it being a merc hero in wc3.

They were passive support. Totems/blessings that had small benefit and long duration. This would be more active support, with benefits that are strong but short in duration. It could work, and I think it would be fascinating in a M+ Environment. I’d be surprised if there’s anything dragon related brought to class options. It’s probably as much of a stretch as getting a support class, unfortunately.

As much as I’m “meh” about it, tinker seems possible solely because they’ve added the 3 roles in island adventures. It could be interesting, but would it be race locked like DHs? Idk. There’s no telling what Blizzard will do now a days tho. They seem to make a lot of choices that don’t make much sense lately.

There is nothing I would love more than a return to support having a role in the game. That’s the whole reason I’m a Shaman. I just can’t see Blizzard reneging on a design policy they’ve been enforcing for about a decade and a half.

I did, once upon a time, do a similar class concept with the Dragonsworn instead alternately empowering their allies and tapping into their combined power to fill their preferred trinity role.

Blizzard just doesn’t want to bother to balance a class based on group play for solo players. To that, I say, don’t bother. Let the support classes be weaker on their own. The people that are drawn to them aren’t solo players, anyway.

Dragonsworn don’t have any class heroes, either.

Their heroes are the dragons themselves.

They can’t even balance the classes they have now, why add more…?

I just want a Pandaren DK or Pally. Lore be damned at this point, theyve altered it before!

I think this guy is onto something. Personally id much rather have this Dragonsworn class than Bards or Tinkerers. It could add in another mail armor class. The powers would come from sources unique to WoW. Black and Brown Dragonflights for tanking. Red and Green for Healing. Blue and i guess Black or Red for dps.

Was the Lich King a “class hero” for Death Knights?

Red Mage is in the wrong game.
Relies on procs and has a gimmicky resource mechanic but you can’t do anything with FFXIV’s ui except resize and shift it around a bit.

What do you mean by wrong game?
