HOLY CRUD, THANK YOU. I think the exact same way! I just find it so strange that people want all the covenant abilities to be in every covenant. Like, it’s a CHOICE you make! They even said this at Blizzcon! I’m so glad to have come across a fellow like-minded person! <3
Yeah. I mean demons and elementals come from different realms too. They come to the mortal realms all the time. The Shadowlands seem to be someplace that used to be harder to reach.
Any playable race could be sent for training and to recruit new souls for the covenant. Just looking at the previews there are 6 potental races. Kyrian, Steward, Faun, Venthyr, Gargoyles, and Necrolords.
Sorry! For some weird reason, my profile was set to another character.
PLEASE DO NOT TIE COSMETIC CHOICES TO PLAYER POWER. Please blizzard this system could be really cool if you don’t take away choice by having vastly disparate powers.
Just gonna pitch in with the already mentioned “if Covenant abilities are going to contribute to player power, don’t force us to pick one and be stuck with it forever / for a long period of time”. Ideally I would like those to work like talents/Essences (freely swappable in a rested area), but I think I can accept a daily cooldown.
K, onto the Kyrian Covenant. As a paladin at heart, I am happy to find a place for myself in the Shadowlands, next to Uther no less! I am a little concerned that the story of Basion feels very… Light-heavy. Some Light influences are to be expected, but I am getting brainwashy vibes out of it. This being said, I love the aesthetic of both the environment and the armors (except the plate helm, I’ve never liked those super bulky full helms), white, blue, and yellow is what I am here for!
I’m cool with Covenant abilities being tied to Covenant choice. It literally doesn’t matter to me as I’m picking Venthyr no matter what.
Now this might shock you but other people besides you play this game and would really prefer to have actual choice.
This might shock YOU but I’m able to share my opinion just as much as those people

Bastion is tied to Arcane not Light. The Kyrian use a combination of Arcane and Death combined into a single Death Magic.
Gold is quite common in Titan areas. Titans are beings of Arcane remember?
Incidentally the Knights of the Silver Hand are named after the Titan Keeper Tyr who like all Titan Keepers has primary ties to Arcane.
Odyn didn’t base the Halls of Valor for the Afterlife of the Light but the Afterlife of Arcane Valor.
Please explain in what way it benefits you to not be able to choose your ability, since you only care about cosmetic/lore it could deny you an awesome class ability.
Uh and what exactly is wrong with robes??
I’m over here HOPING for more robes for Paladin…
Why does the armor look like its been pulled from a fallen chandelier?
“The Bastion zone can now transform into a tank form but does so at the cost of mobility.” Wait, what?
I too would like some way to change covenants in the end game. But I want it to be like the Scryers/Aldor in BC or Oracles/Frenzyheart in WotLK. Make it a lot of work, so that choosing a covenant still has meaning, but you can change if you really want to.
Then add an FoS achievement for swapping around to all 4 Covenants.
No, I don’t care if I only get +5% DPS in one particular type of content. And I don’t really want to group with anyone who would reject me just for that either.
Covenant damage and healing abilities should just be a AOE heal or AOE damage that perhaps grows in value or changes in appearance as you continue to increase your rep with the covenant. You could even make it transmoggable via unlocks found in shadowlands from a variety of content.
For example: Kyrian damage ability summons an angelic Kyrian which crashes down on your foe with an impressive looking sword of light, doing some damage, and perhaps AOE damage split between targets as well. Kyrian healing summons a Kyrian which casts a flashy looking heal spell which restores a ton of HP to the group on a significant cooldown.
Now let’s say I complete the first raid tier, and I get an item which allows me to change the appearance of the damage one so that an Owl Boi slams the target for insane dmg instead of a winged angel type guy.
It’s still cool, but it’s not frustrating as hell because I don’t have to feel like I need to switch my ability for a raid boss, a dungeon encounter, PVP, etc… since the ability just always does AOE and everyone gets the same damage+healing ability with different appearances – no frustration but still a great sense of identity/look and feel with your covenant choice.
What happens when one Covenant has the best PvP talents and another covenant the best raid talents. Are the covenant talents tied to class spec? Not the best solution but at least we’d have a best choice for either situation. If it isn’t and it’s too big of a deal to change covenants, Do I roll two of the same characters, one for PvP and one for PvE. (I’m not gonna do that)
Or you could let us duel spec the covenant’s rental abilities like we do our regular abilities.
One other thought/question: What happens when our Covenant abilities change during a patch and our current covenant choice isn’t the best choice for us anymore?
I know there’s a lot more information not released to us yet, but It just seems that the covenant system will work fine in either PvE or PvP but not both.
Even in PvE - you say that like it’s one thing. You can already see examples of abilities that will likely work better in M+ versus raiding.
Back at Blizzcon they said you could change covenants but it would reset your anima power progression (which empowers your soulbinds) to 0 - a stiff penalty that likely won’t be worthwhile.
If I get passed up that is on them, it is their choice just like how I should be able choice the Covenant I want and for it to mean something.
If I wanted to do heroic raids or rated pvp I would choose the best builds. Your choice is already made if you only care about throughput. Their is nothing wrong with that. If want to be a Kryian but its 7% less effective then Night Fae then it means something that you choose to be a Kryian as care more about the theme then power. Conversely if you joined the Night Fae but you don’t like the theme then it means you want to be more effective. Joining a covenant is meaningless if you can freely change between them. Most of the arguments here are “I don’t want to have consequences for the choices I make”
Make choices matter.
Covenants really need to only offer cosmetics, pets, mounts. No more borrowed power.
