I feel like emulating LoL’s decision to spend money on creating the excellent show “Arcane”… would be a good financial decision for Blizz to follow… in that it was an effective use of LoL’s advertising dollars vs. the cost of creating animations these days. It brought characters to life in cool ways, had strong female leads… very artistic and creative… good story…
And I get it… they’re gun-shy. Their last attempt was probably a financial pit they are still suffering from in various way but…
Times have changed. Creating animations is so simple these days that even a big dumb layperson like me can do it.
^AND lets be clear.
— I am not advocating copying anything “Arcane” did regarding their presentation-style. What I mean is to emulate their level of excellence and care they clearly put into the project.
— You do not need to make the animation about the main characters. You can create (1) a character that fights in the arena system, which can be realistic and somewhat brutal; (2) A group of characters tasked to clear out ‘dungeons’; (3) characters in a large military, that conduct ‘raids’ on major threats. ← and then have all these characters interact at various times as friend and/or foe, like a ‘‘game of thrones’’ style storytelling approach
— (( → EDIT ← in response to some posts… )) I am not advocating the use of AI. Blizz has the capacity to (a) hire ppl to create this all in-house; (b) in the style of ‘epic xpac intro cutscene’; (c) while utilizing their (i) massive 2D & 3D libraries; (ii) tried and tested animation and 3d model production pipeline; and (iii) detailed 3D world they have at their disposal… to reduce the cost of creating scenes and characters.
^You could have these characters dealing with the various ongoings & aftermaths of dramatic ingame events… creating a broader sense of the world at the same time. (( All the characters could be added as NPCs in the game too. ))
P.S. Just remember, ‘surviving disaster’ story plots mixed in with amazing action, humor, and great storytelling is almost never a bad way to go about it… and please remember… we arent the main characters in the game. We’re basically the side-characters doing all the hard work that they later get all the credit for (( they call us heroes and ‘champions’ to placate us ))
P.S.S. and please remember who your main audience most likely is… most of us aren’t kids anymore …and… kids like watching ‘adult’ things, its ‘cool’ …so… If you do this I’d recommend you cater to adults this time around please. You don’t have to go overboard or anything but… none of this naive, kiddy silly stuff. take us seriously, make it smart and i think you’ll find success.
P.S.S.S. this is a special note to the exec at Microsoft who has played WoW their whole life and loves anime… cmon… you know you wanna see this…
