Is there a way to grind out honor that doesn’t involve bashing my head against the wall in non-rated BGs and skirms against people that are 220 item level in PvP gear?
The ways you can earn honor:
- Arenas
- Normal battlegrounds
- Epic battlegrounds
- Brawls
- Skirmishes
- Slaying players in War Mode
- PvP world quests in War Mode
- Slaying bounties in War Mode
- Weekly PvP quests
The ‘random’ battleground function isn’t just a random map, it’s random team mates and enemies. Those could be people who are more geared than you. You may find an easier time grinding honor in epic battlegrounds, where even losses as Alliance yield more rewards than Horde wins due to the Enlistment bonus.
There will be catch-up mechanisms and a general reset in gear when the next patch comes out and more gear is made avaialble.

Epic Battlegrounds as Alliance will be good, time of day/night has some variance to this. Your character looks good, start to swap out some pieces for Higher Versatility % PVP gear (20-25%+).
With all of the mobility as a monk should be fun sitting back/escape while assisting team in Epics.

You want to queue with someone in the 51-59 pvp bracket. You won’t earn conquest points doing this, but you’ll get honor. Everyone is scaled around the same level in that bracket. It’s more fun for new level 60 characters. Once you have your full honor set at 197, it should be better. But you’re a monk, so maybe even earlier.

Honor gear is mostly a trap. I would focus on your covenant storyline and getting your renown up for easy 197 gear. Then use the honor for the pieces covenant gear doesn’t cover. You have to get your renown up to level 22 anyway.
Epics are also a good suggestion when you have all your covenant gear up to 197.

To be perfectly honest, if you find grinding honor to get started with rated pvp to be too irritating of a task, you’re going to find losing rating over getting disorganized people in your groups considerably less fun.

You could of hit honor cap before you hit 60.
Epic BGs are better than Random Bgs. I suggest Epics.
