So I recently leveled up a rogue and my biggest complaint is, why can finishers be used below CP cap.
Like why would a rogue ever dona finisher at 1 CP.
I find myself too often spamming a key and accidentally queing up the finisher again with 1 or 2 CP and thus wasting them

Used situationally to extend auras like SnD and sometimes good to get a finality (if someone talents into it) to line up with next eviscerate for darkest night etc. Outlaw and us Subtlety rogues have a bunch of different uses for it all due to CDR respectively to our kits. I would assume Assassination has some stuff they care about as well.
It is all situational, in time you will see little tricks and other things to help along the way. Welcome to rogue, don’t get frustrated, and keep your wits about you always.

In the early days of wow, combo points didn’t carry over from mob to mob. You’d have to make a judgement call regarding damage/utility, energy costs and mob health remaining.

Also doing a shorter duration Rupture or SND makes sense on openers until you can build momentum for a full rotation, but that is more common questing/soloing/pvp approach.
I think that is something that seems simple, but it is something advanced Rogues understand to apply in practice.

This is one of the dumbest questions on the forums of all times. Goodnight.

As others have said, it’s situational. As an example, for Assassination, it’s more energy efficient to Eviscerate at 6cp vs Mutilate for the 1 extra cp. Learning when to clip or not clip cp’s comes with experience.
Don’t spam keys. This will cause you to unnecessarily burn through your energy. Worst thing you can do as a rogue. Practice getting into a rhythm and pace yourself. Learn when to pool energy and when to let it all out.

That’s gonna be hard since I’m used to an unga bunga play style

All you need to do, is use basic math. You’re just trolling right now, and not actually curious.
I’m not trolling.i main ret and I can’t use any of my spenders with less than 3 HP, so it’s weird to me that I can use finishers with less than cap CPs. Like what’s the purpose…
Chill, not everyone wants to steal your ice cream papi

If someone is at low health, there is NO need to be spending all the points, all the time. The damage needs to be varied per momentum swings. Do you have any idea how much globals matter to a rogue? More than any other class pretty much.

Yes but do you know how much dmg each finisher does per CP by heart? Cuz I get that but what if you use a lesser finisher to get that kill but it’s not enough dmg.
I don’t, I’ve mained ret since tbc. I didn’t think rogue would have so much damn down time waiting for energy to recover and since I’m thinking it’s not optimal to use finishers without full CP you can imagine how slow and boring the gameplay feels to me
I’m not looking for a new main, just wanna dip my toes in rogue for like bgs and stuff
The downtime pretty much disappears at higher levels. You obviously have not maxed out a rogue at all. All that matters is being level 70+ and 80.
There is no downtime when maxed out. The “energy” bar is almost pointless.

Well I got it to 80 but still im greens. So the only content I did was time walkers as of now. And everything dies super fast so haven’t really gotten a chance to get a feel for it.
But while doing quests in crappy greens from 70-80 the game play was very slow waiting for energy to pull up to dish out full CP finishers
Guess I just have to gear up and play real end game to see the difference
But seriously leveling up was boring AF
You aren’t playing rogue right. Sounds like you’re playing subtlety and not using stealth openers or Shadow Dance often enough. You’re not supposed to hold onto Shadow Dance. Leveling solo as a rogue is EXTREMELY quick and easy.

Yeah I tried sub for a bit and found that it’s super reliant on CDs and openers. So between that it felt meh. Mostly in world content
So ultimately switch to outlaw. I dislike dot specs so sin was a hard no
Play assassination and you literally won’t have any downtime. You’re supposed to re-stealth after every kill to take advantage of subterfuge. Just swap to assassination because there is NO way you’ll ever care for Subtlety coming from playing a paladin.

Okay but is there an add on other than WA that helps to tracks dots? That where I struggle with dot specs
Try OmniBar and OmniCC. Combine them and there should be zero issues.

I have omibar, didn’t know it can track dots I placed in enemies
