I am wondering if they are even concerned with the many players who won’t resub until the day Classic is released? I know a lot of people are waiting for that day or maybe even have to wait until the first of the month.
If they want to make sure they could do a poll on their Twitter. Just a simple straw poll. “Are you going to come back to play Classic WOW?”
I bet there are still people out there who quit and are not aware it is even a thing.

Very relieving, thank you. Although, why point out Herod’s potential for 10,000+ queues? Won’t all realms that share the “full” tag also have the same potential? Do the servers have different pop limits?
no they are all the same, but there are no hard caps on population. Harod just happened to be where everyone went and since no hard cap they ended up with way more folks than Blizzard planned for a single server. thus the warning for Harod but not other ‘full’ servers having extreme populations.
Ohhhh ok. That makes sense now thanks :).
so the choice is between waiting in a queue for as long as required to enter a world bustling with people, that will have a vibrant economy and WPvP galore or enjoy the initial perks of a smaller server, until most players on it find out how great Herod is and transfer there to join in on the fun leaving an empty server behind like how has happened in the past.
Decisions decisions
Because the tourists will most likely gravitate towards the PvE realms first. They’ll be the first to die.
Which is why server transfers shouldn’t be allowed until like years down the road. No risk no reward. Want things easier? Gotta suck it if the server is dead.
Right? Then I’ll be expecting my free transfer from my dead server.
I just went to roll a char on Skeram, and literally for the first time ever, I just realized that the cones on the undead fingers look like bugles. That feature absolutely had to come from someone wearing bugles on their fingers like we all do.

It was the exact opposite in actual vanilla. It was the pvp servers that cannibalized themselves.
I mean, a lot of people were saying something similar about Stalagg when they opened it the other day, how nobody would want to switch because it’d be better to wait in a queue than play on a dead realm.
And now they’ve just opened two more because it’s already filled up. Herod may have more people playing on it overall in the end, but I really don’t think every or even most other realms will be dead. We already know that layering means that for phase 1, every realm is going to have more players on it than any realm back in the day, and even though there will inevitably be a lot of drop of, all of those layers are going to be condensed.
Apart from issues such as the lack of warning for reserving names, I think they’re doing this fairly well. Starting with fewer realms and only adding more as necessary reduces the risk of having dead servers and avoids any potential issues caused by trying to merge two low-population servers together.
We’ll see how it plays out, I just don’t think there’s much evidence to believe that only Herod will enjoy a healthy population.

I’ll be interested to see what the numbers look like after a month or two.
there was a tad bit of sarcasm in my post.
I sometimes think Blizz has been away far too long from its origins to realize what it is that is bringing people back to play an old game.
It’s the community. To play in a world teeming with life. The more the better, that is the experience most people want to capture or recapture.
Nice what 3 hour warning. Everyone is staying on HEROD and its your fault. Give people 3 + days to organize a move. DUH.

Icy there are hard caps on population, just not accounts on a server. Its just no one is currently playing so you don’t hit them.
I’m oceanic and this isn’t my problem but those 10 k + queues are going to take their toll. Are you really going to sit in queue for hours while your friends, streamers and random nobodys level to 60?
The frustration will be too much for many. Even just 1 disconnect could be rage inducing.

Oh even if we discussed it, they gave what 3 hours or so heads up again… so less than 50% of the people that would moved moved with these two new servers.
Its not like people all over the forums have been telling them GIVE a heads-up so people can organize and get their names reserved again. Nope. Same old same old. We just drop this and let the players try to pick up the pieces. No excuse for this.
im just happy they are releasing servers, its just painful they releasing them one at a time. Its almost like they don’t have the money to put up servers. Activision baby! Not even going to call this company blizzard anymore…just Activision

That’s my point though.
“Oh even if we discussed it, they gave what 3 hours or so heads up again… so less than 50% of the people that would moved moved with these two new servers.”
The discussion should have already happened. Days ago. There should already have been a plan in place, as I outlined. The conversation doesn’t start the moment the servers are announced- it should be done, and guildies ready the moment that the announcement happens.
