Verse not playing with my friends, yes.
See Blizzard again provide NO time but 3 hours to organize a server move. Its a joke. And probably the worst management i have seen from them ever. Its not hard you want people to move from the super high servers to the low… okay give them a heads up so they can talk to people and convince their friends/guilds to move and this way you avoid the 10% of them that names are really important to saying its not worth the risk because the server has been up for 3 hours now because blizzard, despite being informed by the 1000s+ post here they need to provide a okay amount of heads-up when open servers knows better.
Most my friends are rather settled… and this is true for a lot of people thus Herod’s population issue. You really cannot add into this mix Blizzard not giving a darn about people getting a heads-up so they can get their names.
Also again look at the names, Yikes.
I am happy the rp realm is still only medium. I am not moving. Certainly not to a pvp server.
I wonder what will happen when all those new people discover they do not like the old style pvp and want a pve realm? Oh, guess what? They are full too!

Okay, say we are like we are going to start on the next new server. Right.
Wait we have jobs, aren’t on blizzards forums all day long, etc. So 9/10 of the guild/friends will not even see this until now… or maybe even tomorrow. So which of these servers should they have rolled on? Maybe they rolled on both, so now they have to move again to get on the same one. And well a many will say no because the server has been open for a while and there is a risk of name loss… And what just occurred disorder and chaos.
No one from my loose circle is going to make a move in such a uncertain and unclear situation. Until blizzard says hey in 1-3 days we are releasing a server at this time the discussion of moving will never occur for most players and guilds. And 1000s of forum post clearly outlined this reality.

You had 8 or 9 hours this time.

Not everyone wants or needs a full server to experience a community. We’re already told that servers today have more people in them than in the past. A medium population is fine.

gotta be careful about this. how certain we are this is actual populations and not just people locking in names. how to they calculate actual players.

The player cap of a server is largely artificial (look at modern servers) It uses the same tech. Thus the limiting factor is just x population (which will match with a layer number say 3-6 layers). There is no limiting factor otherwise and we know this because retail. (This is based on 7.x code). Thus limited number of players will be limited to how many layers blizzard has allowed to exist (which is directly link to server population… in other words synonymous with.)
Blizzard could uncap server population. Is there a possibility that logging, loot, or some other system could have issues with too many people on a single realm… YES. But its not likely unless we are talking about far more people.
TLDR - Blizzards population and thus layer caps are set strictly to avoid having too many players around phase 2.
I had 8-9 hours? Do i live on Blizzard forums… NO.
Do my friends live on blizzard forums no? Someone is checking them once a day or so i bet, but come on man. Also this was announced when most of us were busy.
This isn’t enough time.

Oceanic needs another pvp server blizzard. Launch is going to be a disaster otherwise.
Make it happen.
This is factually incorrect. I am a backend software developer, I work with server architecture and code for a living. I can tell you for a fact that server population max is not “largely artificial” it just isn’t. However what the Blizzard servers are likely designed to do is when they hit a specific population threshold they likely have a system that spins up a new server on a different set of hardware in order to account for the load and then likely splits the population across those servers. This won’t work for Classic given that it is the technology that Sharding is likely built on and Classic is all about getting away from Sharding.
EDIT:
I do however agree that there is likely a cap that is far under the actual max to account for phase 2
I want blizzard to make this announcement monday 8/26 at 14:55 pacific time, we will be opening a new PVP EST server on Thursday at 09:00 PST. there that should satisfy the complainers that need 3 days to decide to move or not and who did not plan ahead for a contingency of a new server being opened. even though I and many others figured Stalagg would fill and they would release an additional server this week.
I honestly don’t understand it.
If they want to try to solve the problem now, why would they open servers days after the issue arises?
Honestly to those complaining about “not enough time” to me you guys sound illogical. You literally have 7 days before launch and every day you don’t move is only going to make it harder.
I mean why even play at launch? I think Blizzard should tell us now they plan to open another server Aug 29th 3pm PDT so I can finally be ready.

I was being sarcastic I agree with you thats why I said to announce 5 minutes before launch and they can wait 3 days to play on their shiney new server while everybody else is level 40+ on these old servers they were unwilling to move to.
Many of us saw the writing on the wall and planned our move even before Stalagg was announced. others were not prepared/didn’t have contingencies so are now complaining they had no time to organize. well they can have the first 3 days after launch to plan their move in my plan.

Please pop a new Normal server. The existing ones are going to fill up this week, and if not then, at launch. We need at least one more Normal server. RP and RPPVP looks like 1 server is the sweet spot, and the PVP response has been massive, but the PVE population has been steadily growing. I have a feeling that a lot of people who are not yet reserving names are going to want to roll on a Normal server, so we should make sure there is a home for them without being too crowded and having a queue.

My entire guild managed to move no problem and we’re easily 300+ /shrug

Personally, I’m thinking it’ll be more like 30’ish. Getting out of the first main zone (Elwynn, Dun Morough, Durotar, etc) isn’t so bad. Being in your high 20s without a mount can be frustratingly slow, and the leveling seems to really slow down around 30.
25-30 was always hard for me but somehow when I hit 30 the light at the end of the tunnel came on only 10 more levels and I got a second wind. that level 40 mount was quite the carrot to spur me through the 30’s

Yeah thats not merged thats just linked and will lead to no server community

We don’t need a single PvE server. Couldn’t think of anything worse. Fighting for resourxes against the same faction is bad enough but sitting there watching the opposite faction skin or herb or mine and not be able to stop them? Also PvE is boring…
