New Realm Connections are Underway

I want blackrock with smolderthorn please

Please take attention to the Brazillian servers:

  • Azralon is a full server but only for Horde - there’s almost no Alliance there;
  • Goldrinn has way less players than Azralon, but it’s overlwheming Alliance;
  • Tol-Barad, Nemesis and Gallywix are currently suffering with low population, affecting recruitment pools and the market (auciton house included).

In a ideal setting all those servers would be connected into one, but saving the three low-populated servers is a must, especially Gallywix.

i want blackrock and tichondrius though that’s probably a pipe dream LMAO

i’d settle for blackrock+kil’jaeden which i think is most likely to happen
kj has like 5k active players, blackrock has 1k
same og data center ect

smolderthorn is already in a 5 way connection with those 5 realms totaling 1,000 active players
merging blackrock into that would keep blackrock still WAAAAY too inactive : (

Fix’ed that for you. Now if only we can get that part fixed in the game itself.

Nope. I’d say the majority are still on their dead realm because they don’t want to/can’t afford to transfer their toons. I like my realm and don’t want to leave but not because it’s low pop. I hope they connect it with enough realms that it becomes high pop.

Nemesis and Tol Barad are already merged so there are effectively 4 Brazilian servers

In all honesty they could keep Azralon separate and merge the other 3 servers, you would end up with 2 servers then, both would be pretty high pop, azralon would be horde dominated and the merged cluster would be heavily alliance (the only one of the non-azralon servers with a horde majority is gallywix and even that isn’t by much)

For Mexican servers I could see Quel’Thalas and Drakkari being merged, but it will me more interesting to see what happens elsewhere, there are relatively few Spanish/Portuguese servers and they have much healthier populations generally than many low pop English servers.

Battlegroups haven’t been a thing since Cata.
Thanks to CRZ, it’s a FFA on who you see while
you’re out and about.
AFAIK RP realms only get sharded with other RP realms though.

its not FFA, datacenter restrictions are still a thing, so a realm based in Los Angeles won’t get connected with one based in chicago. (you will never see lightninghoof connected with sisters of elune for example).

I’m not talking about connections, I’m talking about Cross Realm Zoning.
As in, when you’re out doing WQs or whatever, and you see 50 other people from just as many different realms in an area the size of a postage stamp.
Clear enough now?

even then they are seperated by data centre, if you see someone from a different datacentre as yours in your crz shard, its because they are grouped up with somebody else, but it doesn’t happen naturally.

“Currently, cross-realm zoning only occurs between realms within +/-3 hours time zone difference.”

What’s the time difference between East Coast and West Coast again?

US Eastern Time is 3 hours ahead of US Pacific Time.
PT > MT > CT > ET

Thank you, hopefully we can now put this “Data center” :poop: to rest

better yet just refer to this spreadsheet:

Thats just a fancy way of saying US servers cant cross realm with oceanic servers… Server timezone is useless for this determination since both the Los Angeles and Chicago datacentres host realms from all mainland American timezones, and realms with different timezones are already physically connected together (obviously there are no servers on Atlantic time, Alaska time or Hawaii time, and all other wow regions only operate on a single timezone anyway). RP servers only cross realm in current content aka BFA zones, and only with servers from the same datacenter (emerald dream will never join the same cross realm instance of moon guard/wyrmrest accord)

Is this plan dead on arrival? This post is 12 days and two maintenance cycles old now and zero attempts at connections for US realms have occurred and the attempted Euro server connections were problematic to say the least. Are cross-realm guilding and auction houses more technically feasible?

0 idea what you even mean by this

sharding prioritizes your timezone
while you’ll rarely encounter others in timezones other than yours it’s not impossible it’s all based on current activity and zone density

however, they don’t connect (literally connect) pst realms with non pst realms ect

so you’re salty over nothing datacenter is relevant

this

i imagine they’re probably trying to figure out why that went so badly and plan to revisit this when they figure it out obviously

Thats not true, you can look at the Anub’arak server cluster to see that, Anub’Arak & Smoulderthorn are eastern time, Chromaggus & Garithos are central time, Nathrezim is mountain time and Crushridge is pacific time, yet they are all connected as 1 connected realm. They were and still are however all housed in the Los Angeles data centre.

Realm time is a useless metric applied to servers that just changes the time you see client side but has no further effect anymore on anything since all events run off a regionwide schedule these days.

Sharding (and realm connections since they have to come from the same pool) can only happen with a realm of the same data centre as your home servers, if you see someone from a different language region/server type/data centre on your server its because they joined a group and hopped over, timezone isn’t a metric that is taken into account in this.

Probably this, yeah. Would be nice if a blue gave us an update, though. It’s been almost two weeks.

Um… If a guild has members from two different realms that have different time zones, half the guild is gonna be late if they schedule a raid for 7pm server time.

What are you talking about? All those realms are central time:

Before they were connected they had different server times, this is referencing to a post that stated that blizzard won’t connect servers that are on a different time zone, these servers were all merged onto Garithos if I remember correctly so it inherited the timezone of that server post merger. sorry I should have been more clear with the initial post.
