New Realm Connections are Underway

I don’t think it is.

They “removed” battlegroups prior to connecting realms (I believe it happened around 2010-2011 whereas realms were connected in 2013-2014), and still, if you look at the list of connected realms, ALL of them have been within the same battlegroup, so even if they’re not used for grouping anymore, it seems like they still restrict which realms can be connected together.

well of course they are going to restrict which realms can be connected but it isn’t being done on the basis of battlegroup which is what you repeatedly claimed

Really? Go look at the list of connected realms. ALL of them share the same battlegroup and time zone.

Examples:

Nesingwary, Vek’nilash and Nazgrel
(all Bloodlust, US central)

Agamaggan, Jaedenar, The Underbog, Archimonde and Burning Legion
(all Shadowburn, US central)

Ysondre, Magtheridon, Anetheron and Altar of Storms
(all Ruin, US eastern)

ALL of them are like that. I’m not “claiming” anything, it’s the truth.

Did you even read that link I gave you - they don’t have battlegroups anymore.

In any case, believe what you want.

You know I never bothered checking this out because you never provided your source for this but I just checked the old battlegroups for something else and noticed my main’s server was connected with another server in a different battlegroup so …

I did read it. Did you? They eliminated battlegroups in the sense that they removed grouping restrictions, i.e. I can get matched with players from Quel’Thalas in my dungeons even if they’re not in Rampage, but the battlegroups themselves still exist, which is proven by the fact that ALL CONNECTED REALMS are within the same battlegroup, even though those connections happened AFTER they “removed” battlegroups. Maybe you should look into it a bit more instead of linking wowpedia and acting like you know better.

so you are still going with this

we won’t have long to wait - good luck.

If there’s any correlation between server size and population imbalance, it’s in the opposite direction: the most imbalanced servers tend to be the largest servers.

There’s also a danger in servers that are too big. At the beginning of BFA, auction house delays were in the minutes from some servers. They may think they’ve fixed that, but recent experience suggests they don’t really know what’s going on with auction houses.

I said what I said. I’m ready to eat crow if they lift those restrictions in the upcoming connections, but it’s 100% accurate for all current connected realms.

Is there a list of which realms will be connected to others?

A 2 person game is multiplayer. “Massively multiplayer” just means “a lot more than 2”, say 100 players or so. It doesn’t have to be tens of thousands, or even thousands.

Three out of four are advantages. Grouping is not; you can group with anyone you like, connected or not, already.

Back at the beginning of the expansion, we were as often as not sharded apart from guildies on the same server name within a connected realm. If they can fix that, they could easily do so for all guildies, and not just guildies who share a server name. You could ask for that.

Connecting realms has not improved that community, as the server cultures remain distinct. It has slight benefits with respect to the auction house and raiding guilds, and that’s it.

In addition, many of us on lower population servers prefer to be on a lower population server, and strongly dislike the atmosphere in high population servers.

If you must connect realms, please at a minimum observe prior server types - for example, only connect former RPPVP servers with other former RPPVP server - and don’t connect lower population realms with higher population realms. In the case of Maelstrom-Lightninghoof-Veco, that means don’t connect us to Emerald Dream. At most it might be okay to connect us to Ravenholdt-TN.

Not for mythic raids.

Yeah some good points i agree but one of the reasons i left frostmourne is because of the endless kiddy chat in trade, suppose i could just turn chat off… oh and the LAG, frostmourne is so much more laggy for me.

just go back to battlegroups and merge those realms. simple easy done.

which part of my factual post are you trying to pass off as trolling?

i agree with this

imagine if they just made battle groups cluster communities with xrealm everything (ah/trade/guilds)

they could update the extremely dated realm select to be the 10 or 12 or whatever battlegroups WITH THEIR DATA CENTER TIME ZONES TAGGED ON THEM that work as dropdown lists that let you select the realm you wanna play on within the time zoned battlegroup

i remember being a kid and picking stormrage because i liked the name
then having 80 ms because im from CA
would have been nice to have been guided to a PST realm but i would have no way of knowing about any of that for like another year of playing

They aren’t going to merge realms. And it wouldn’t be easy and simple trying to merge full servers with high population ones and 8 others.

connected realms are merged realms

they’re completely connected guilds ah and trade

they aren’t just sharding

Is there any news yet on what servers (okay, low pop, but which ones exactly) are getting merged?
