New Player Restriction Policy Update Request

I agree that this is extremely punishing, especially on a fresh server. I started playing with several friends and none of us have ever played before and we wanted to experience the game together only to find out that because apparently our decades old Blizzard accounts are not good enough to engage in the game in full.

Blizzard at the minimum needs to remove the restriction preventing a player from sending items between their own alts. That is the most ridiculous restriction AND THAT RESTRICTION IS NOT SPELLED OUT IN THEIR KB ARTICLE

It’s borderline a scam. I opened several tickets and they are tripping over their own words giving different explanation. Once “it’s only for new players”, then “it’s for returning players” or “it’s a bug but we can’t fix it”. It was just the laziest and the cheapest way to claim they are doing something about bots. The fact that there is no info about it when you buy new subscription is shady as hell. Anticonsumer for sure. They definitely can allow access but that would actually require work on their part. The fact that you only find out about it once you reach AH which usually is way over two hours again feels like a deliberate scam. At this point, they should just offer refunds to people they tried to cheat. But I think their real solution would be to just use bots as customer service.

I am opening new tickets and not allowing my existing tickets to close until the account restriction is lifted or expired and actively encourage every player, both those affected and not, to do the same.

It’s really bad, I joined specifically for the fresh servers and can’t even trade with party members! I can’t even trade quest items to my friend who encouraged me to join the game! Really tough to participate in the social aspect of the game. And isn’t that social aspect, the entire point?!?! I can’t imagine that this even prevents bots who have no problem farming 30 days and then further violating TOS later. Additionally, doesn’t this just create a bigger market for hacked/stolen accounts which is definitely worse? This seems to impact new and existing players far more than bots. Additionally, I wasn’t warned before paying the subscription that I would be unable to participate for 30days or whatever! I couldn’t even find a warning on the new/returning player advertisement/instructional pages that Blizzard puts out. It is completely unbeknownst to the new/returning players who just end up feeling scammed.

Here is an idea.

How about they extend the new account restrictions to 6 months. Since we all know every bot ban wave is every 6 months this should make zero profit for sellers and thus bots would have to be more stealthy than ever to make it past a ban wave.

As for new “Human” players to the game, add some verification processes during the first month to lessen the restrictions to the mail and auction house then finally trading.

  • Give government ID
  • Set up 2 factor
  • Have a chat history with others or public channels(proves you arent a bot with review of the chat history)
  • Fill out a survey

After these steps are done or as they are done throughout the month, the more restrictions are lifted.

I figure for authentication they should demand donations to the local blood bank verified by at least three medical professionals. No less silly than their current policy which actually benefits gold sellers some of which have moved on to selling low level in game items

The depth of restrictions is really crippling.

I am also disappointed that there wasn’t a warning upon subscription. I feel duped.

My character is so isolated from the community and engagement in the game. Item I can use for crafting/leveling/quality of life are right there and I cannot interact with them.

Now that I have been in and playing I am “hooked” once again (just like 20 years ago) but this is really crushing. I wish there was a way to validate that I am a real, returning player and get the restriction removed.

I have a feeling that the “just get through it people” have not had to deal with the 1 month restricted period themselves. IT SUCKS.

I cannot understand this either. I can finally craft wands on my main and find out now that won’t help my alts at all :frowning:

I am doing to asking for a hamburger today that I cannot repay until Tuesday in December
late December. Trying to obtain a lesser magic wand for my priest Sylith and I have no way to pay anyone and by the time I can craft it I will likely be in my twenties

If they robbed you in the street it’s actually your fault, you should’ve stayed at home

I think I prefer not having thousands of bots ruining the economy, a few people crying about this, is a price I’m willing to pay.

Its a price you’re willing to pay because you in fact do not have to pay it.

tried to play smart but just showed you literally cant read a text

What are you actually paying, since you’re not paying the price?

economy(trading, AH, mail, to keep it simple) is a core system of an MMORPG. Being barred from participating in economy for the first 30 days of a fresh experience is essentially being barred from the MMO aspect of the game. Yeah you can still group up but loot (and bag space) are fundamental. There are a bunch of scenarios here where you are screw over.

  1. Casters are forced to go enchanting to get wands until quests and dungeons start providing them.
  2. Bag/bank space quickly fills up with items you want, or need, to keep. You cannot participate in the economy and buy tailor-made bags for more space. You also cannot send mail to bank alts. Saving greens for alts = even more limited bag space.
  3. Some quests require crafted items that you now cannot buy off AH.
  4. Mages can’t trade water to friends or groups.
  5. Forget about naturally(questing, dungeon, some profession farming) getting your mount at 40. You won’t be able to loot most of the time. So, what, once you hit 40 delete everything from your bags and bank so you can farm ore and sell on AH?

And so on.
Bag space really is key to the whole experience. Surely you can still quest and run dungeons with full bags, not being able to loot anything, having to delete things to pick up quest items, but, truly, who wants to do that?

And for those who say “it is only 30 days” – if you think the first 30 days aren’t critical to a fresh server experience, you are lying to yourself.

The entire point is that this does literally NOTHING against bots.

They’re literally controlling ERA and Anniversary realms economy right now.

So players need to suffer even though its doing nothing against botters?

They could email me right now and I could give them a major website and it would cost very little to ban a gigantic portion of their gold moving accounts. This would be done VERY easily with very little $$$$

They just simply don’t care.

The faster people realize that bots can and WILL do things better then human beings. The quicker we can have a clean game.

We need actual moderation but people know exactly where their gold comes from. So it makes sense there isn’t much crying about it.

They are use to bots walking the same line here for years and years.

Check out ones like OSRS where they can do the HARDEST content in the game more efficient then a human.

Let’s say I take 100 steps back and compromise to this crap, such that I’m okay with not being able to use the AH or trading actual mats/item

Exactly how is restricting new mages from trading water with their group suppose to combat bots and gold farming?
