New MMO with Ghostcrawler

Well, before anyone who plays WoW should even begin to speculate about the impact that a Riot mmo could have, two key things: 1) ftp or subscription model and 2) which platform(s).

If any MMO can create a game where players can actually make a good living playing it (besides the gold sellers, selling runs, youtubers and Pro championship players, etc.) it would be a great thing.

Players would have to be able to create their own environment and sell their models and animations.

This was attempted by Second Life, and a couple offshoots of that are in the development works, Samsar and High Fidelity

The Bitcoin casino mindset is a very dangerous direction for decent people–turn everything into a fake casino.

I think Mobas have the advantage of having so many heroes/champions/summoners in them, this gives them endless and interesting lore material.

Eh, it was. But lately their champion quality is extremely poor. Feels like a discount anime.

If I’m still able to play by the time it gets completed, Sure-- I’ll give it a whirl.

Well, no, it’s the other way around. Blizzard is well within the average/good salary brackets for the rest of the industry. The game industry in general underpays, compared to similar roles in related fields. Whereas Riot often massively overpays relative to the rest of the industry.

Riot is the outlier, not Blizzard.

But on the actual topic here… I’d be very interested to see a LoL MMO, sure. Presumably they’d go F2P; naturally that’s a very different beast. I’m really curious to see how they intend to make money from it, and what kind of decisions that might motivate in the design.

Sounds ominous

Do they have a huge need of PR people and IT people?

The staff WoW laid off wasnt dev staff.

There were things I didn’t like about Ghostcrawler’s tenure. Having to PVP when I was an alliance main for my PVE legendary was the friggen worst. So frustrating. I hate PVP in this game, because it makes me a salty B*.

But after all of the main PVE gear progression being tied to PVP vendors in SL, and all of the horrible design directions over the last 2-3 years, I really learned to appreciate what I had.

I had gripes about MoP, but they were few and MoP is still my favorite expansion to date. He understood how to juggle all of the different playstyles in the game and create something that might not have been perfect for everyone, but it was just enough of everything for most.

The biggest issue I had with GC was that he was really bad with figuring out content pacing. It was either a ridiculous drought, or we got a whole new raid tier way too soon.

He was a jerk imo but the game was a lot better. Being a jerk and making a good game is better than being a jerk and not making a good game.

I will definitely try out his MMO unless it is all PvP or a Wildstar2, then it can burn in the fire.

I’m not going to say i’d never consider giving it a try, but I honestly don’t like the genre too much, so I probably won’t play another mmo. However, riot has the resources to make a good product especially if they’re willing to iterate on it, even if the release isn’t great. ffxiv was a disaster when it released, and they were able to turn that around.

It’ll be interesting if most abilities are skill shots, which is something i’d like to see.

People hated on GC because he was the only one who dared to interact directly with the community. A lot of the things people put on him, were not actually things he was in charge of.

Well Riot Games does have some or a lot of former Blizzard employees / developers now. If anything I am curious on how it will go, but knowing Ghostcrawler is on it. You know good and well it will have some WoW similarities within the game, but probably branch out to something else.

Depends what the payment model is and how intrusive the cash shop will be. Free to play with heavy push to buy convenience like your swtor or lortro? Hard pass. Buy to play with some shop elements like your gw2 or eso? Might be worth checking out. Sub with mostly cosmetics only shop like your FF or WoW? More inclined to give it a try.

I have to assume at this point, an MMO for League of Legends would look like Genshin Impact. They will have exterminated all the monsters and wizards by the time we can play, and you can only choose to be a cute youngster with big dreams

Only if I get to play as the cat… The rest of the women are just a bunch of boring pretty-pretties.

Eh. After Valorant I really want nothing to do with Riot.

Chris seems like a cool guy, but the whole Thrall storyline in Cata and how he became green jesus leaves a nasty taste in my mouth.

I have serious doubts about Riot’s ability to write any sort of compelling narrative at all.

If they stick to gameplay and style, it could actually be quite fun, but if they try and make it story based like FFXIV, and now WoW, it’s going to be hot garbage.

I’ll probably at least check it out if they have some decent (not loli) TnA.
