NEW! Mage patch notes

Yeah, this is going to be a really quick experiment for me if something doesn’t change soon.

After being melee for most all of my raiding for 10+ years now, I finally decided to take my primary alt (Frost mage) and raid with it, based on our group needing the intel buff and some of the pre-expansion data we had available.

We had the full 30 in the raid the other night, I want to say 23 DPS, and I was usually coming in 12th - 18th out of those 23 for most of the night. Maybe two pulls I broke into the top 10 but most of the time I was around 15-18. I’m trailing badly our rogues and our UH DH. Adjusting for item level – and this is a guess – I’m bottom third in the group.

So I figure it’s probably all me, since this was not a primary raid toon for me before, until I simmed myself. Turns out I’m doing a greater percentage of theoretical DPS on this guy than I was on my old melee main. I tend to play with a different build than the meta (i.e., I run Comet Storm and Ray of Frost when I can) but the sims were only showing around a 75-100 DPS increase if I swapped those out for the “right” talents, meaning not enough to matter and not enough to make me want to play a different way than I’d like.

The problem is, I’m only doing 50-60 percent of our top DPS in the raid (UHDH, Sub rogue, MM hunter) and for a pure DPS (i.e., non-hybrid) class, that’s not going to cut it. Also very disappointing that Blizzard is tuning up the spec above us and the two below us, but not us.
